Hi guys, has there been any update on the booster programme in Spain, we have been told its starting in the UK this month but our age group may not be able to get it until Nov /Jan but we want to come out to calpe sooner. Can you buy it in the pharmacy?

Hi Flipper1764,

Spain is minded to give a booster to those over 50 years of age and those who are vulnerable, but they are holding off on a final decision pending advice from the European Medicines Agency (Germany and France are also awaiting publication of the EMA'S advice).

Spain's vaccination programme is State-run and supplies have not been provided to the private hospitals and clinics, so I think it's unlikely that vaccines will be available at pharmacies.  Whether this will change for a booster programme is unknown at the moment.  Personally, I doubt it, as those of us with private health insurance had to register for temporary State healthcare in order to obtain our original vaccinations.

Kind regards,

Kim
