You wil need a retirees visa or go self employed. Google both for best info. If you have any descendants from Southern Ireland you might be able to get a Irish passport.

The rules with regards to an Irish passport, do not apply to Southern Ireland only. If you have a parent, who was born anywhere in Ireland, you are then born as an Irish citizen and can apply for an Irish passport. If you have a grand parent, born anywhere in Ireland, you have to apply for Irish citizenship first and then apply for an Irish passport.

We looked into the whole process and no where, until we spoke to a Spanish solicitor, informed us that for the first 5 years, you can only leave Spain for a total of 10 months. This was a deal breaker for us, as we have children and grandchildren,  so we’ll continue with our 90/180.

Hi

Can anyone please explain to me what needs to be done and how difficult is it to retire and move to Spain post brexit

If anyone has just gone through this could you suggest someone who could guide us through the process

Kind regards

Jon

Hi all,

We are currently going through this process.   We are using the help of Spanish Solicitor.   Yes, it is expensive but we are only going to do this once, so I prefer to pay and hopefully get it right and are successful first time round.    We are currently purchasing a property in San Miguel de Salinas, which should hopefully complete by end October 2021.     We now have our NIE Numbers and we have sent our Medical Certificates and Police Checks off to Government Dept for Legalising.     We have our Visa appointment with the Spanish Consulate in Manchester on 24th November 2021, so keep your fingers crossed for us.

Hopefully all this should be worth it in the end when we are sat in the sun at our house in San Miguel  drinking sangria  Fingers Crossed.

Karen Good Afternoon,

I would be interested to know how long it took you to obtain an appointment at the Spanish Consulate (Manchester) we have applied to London back in August but still waiting an appointment, we are still waiting for our Police Check and Medical certificates to be legalised also applied for back in August.

We already have a property in La Florida and hope to be moving soon, with a bit of luck. Hope you enjoy San Miguel, nice Spanish restaurant there that we have been using for 35 years or more, El Parado, try it.

Best of luck Alan

Good Afternoon,

We are currently in the process of applying for a Non Lucrative Visa and awaiting an appointment from the Spanish Consulate in London, other two Consulates are available in Manchester and Glasgow.

I wish I could say it has been an easy process so far but it has not.

My advise would be not to listen to other people and there views, which I know sound contradictory, but people mean well but there are so many circumstances that others may not be aware of they can not possibly advise for you personally only generally.

If you have a Spanish Solicitor I would consult with them first and take Professional advise, as there are many hoops that you will need to jump through.

The 27K p.a. is not specific it will depend on other factors, i.e are you of pensionable age, do you and your spouse receive a State Pension, do you own a Spanish property, do you have savings.

My advice is to obtain professional advice.

Hope this helps.

Alan

Hi Alan

We are also applying for NLV through the London embassy awaiting for a consular number so that our Spanish lawyer can apply for us.

Every time we apply it seems that the embassy changes the rules hopefully this is now the correct way.

I would be interested to know when you get your appointment.

Cannot wait to get back

Regards

Dale

Hi Alan,

Many Thanks for your reply.   We will definately try El Parado when we get out to San Miguel.

We sent an email to Manchester Spanish Consulate on 3rd Sept 2021 and they replied on 15th Sept 2021 confirming our appointment of 24th Nov 2021.

We are now just waiting for our documents to come back from the legalisation department.     We then need to get them translated into Spanish.

We should then be ready for our appointment.

We have printed off our bank statements from our online bank account, but was told by our Solicitor to get these stamped by our banks.

The Spanish are very particular with their documentation, so we are trying to make sure we get everything right first time.

Please be aware that all your documents must be dated within 3 months of your visa appointment, so if you are not successful the first time your documents may be out of date if you have to re-apply.    So we are trying to make sure we get everything right.

Maybe London Consulate has more applications to deal with.

Hope you get everything sorted soon.

I will keep the forum updated on our progress.

Take Care

Karen

Karen Good Morning,

Many thanks for your reply. I have just had a text to say our Documents have been legalised, so awaiting their return ready for translation.

We applied to the London Consulate on the 27th August and had no reply yet. I might try again, having dealt with the Spanish authorities over the past 35 years, nothing surprises me now.

Thanks for the tip of getting Bank Statements stamp, I will do anything and everything to ensure all goes as smoothly as possible.

Keep in touch

Kind Regards

Alan

There are many on here who mean well ,but if I was looking  to go for residency  ,which im not ,I would prefer to go with the experience  of people who have actually undergone the process ,since the start of year ,that way I would imagine a more accurate result would  be obtained  ,nothing like experience

But then they only have their own experience, with their own circumstances, whereas an advisor will have broader experience.
We used an advisor to gain Residencia as we didn't want to risk getting rejected but we are changing over to TIE ourselves.
It is always good to hear how people get on but one size doesn't always fit all.
