This is so awful.

And nobody to give an indication of any kind as to a possible culprit.

My neighbours, not British, actually phoned me in the U.K. to tell me they heard noises in my house and then went and called other neighbours to go and see.

Luckily it was a false alarm, the wind had blown over some large pieces of wood & ply in the courtyard. But how good was that?

Hello

You are very lucky, they're the kind of neighbours you hope to have.

A piece of advise from a Crime Prevention Officer I used to know.....Always remember to  tell the people who live opposite when you will be away (if you have some)...... they have a far better view of your property than the people next door.

Cheers

Stephan, sorry to hear that you too had to go through this. I understand what your saying and believe me I have my eyes wide open on that subject. We will find out who are involved. We too had another break in last year and like you it was carried out by persons with a key. I hope things have got better for you and your able to put it behind you because those people don't care who they harm with their actions. I put the post up to warn others as I feel people need to be aware and ready especially when they target property of people not being able to travel during times like this (scum of the earth) I have someone looking after our property now and urge others to do the same. Security cameras that you can use to watch your home remotely are a great help at identifying those who have no reason to be there and you can report them to the police along with their vehicle registrations.

Take care

Hi, thank you for your post warning of thieves about. I live in the campo outside of Muro de alcoy so was of interest to me as I found evidence of possible thievery(?) outside of my property just recently. It was the traditional pikey signage (see attached photo) and so removed it sharpish after taking a photo. This I showed to the Guardia in Muro who were familiar with the various signs and as a consequence increased their routine drive around in my area. I also inform all my neighbours, although somewhat spread out, and we have formed an early warning system using a WhatsApp group. If you see any of the signs on the attached pictures photo it, remove ALL trace and report to the Guardia. Hope this helps.

My house was completely emtied 2 years ago.

I can't prove anything but there was no sign of break in. The only person with a key was a local estate agent who incidentally does a lot of work with a English business man. Everyone and everything corrupt in Spain. Biggest mistake I ever made buying in Cocentaina....

I agree with you I wish I had bought in la coruna no

Malc85, thank you for your helpful information, I haven't seen any pictures like this but will certainly keep a lookout for them. I'm thinking of organising a neighbourhood Watch for our area. I will come back to the forum when I have investigated the need for such a service. In the meantime, I urge users to use the forum Neighbourhood watch to inform and alert if they see anything that appears suspicious. If anyone has any advice on how we can improve our home security and keep all informed of theft crimes in Cocentaina that they hear of then please use this forum as you could save others from the devastation and cost attached to this mindless thievery AND STOP THEM IN THEIR TRACKS

thankyou for your interest and stay save you all

I live in Benifloret Cocentaina (Campo) and have 4 houses near me two holiday homes and two normal, I try and keep an eye out but unfortunately one got broken into last year and everything was stolen, it must have happened at night as I would have seen the lights of a van or a lorry, but at night it is very difficult to see people about, so I think all houses need CCTV and should also have a security light outside so at least neighbours like myself can try and protect other houses, but it is not easy especially when private roads are used by people who have no right of access, I would prefer that in the cases of private roads they are chained off at night, but no every house holder wants to be bothered with opening and shutting the road, but we need to make it as difficult as possible for these people whoever they are, we never see Polcia or Guardia Civil around this area. we should all  try and keep an eye on all properties!

Hi John, my brother is looking after our property for now, however it may be a good idea to start a neighbourhood watch. If your interested in being put in touch with a few other home owners i will see what i can do

Sorry this reply is so late but I've only just seen your post. I have never seen such a true statement as to corruption in Spain. Everywhere you turn there is someone waiting to rip you off. We're in Marina Alta area and it's just as bad here.

What we can't bear is the animal cruelty. I can't say anymore than that or I won't be able to stop.

Graffiti. Someone must know who COSMO is. It makes the area look run down and dirty.

Seriously considering a move back to UK despite all the problems there.
