You can do your blood pressure at the farmacia or buy your own machine which Ihave done. The doctors see more patients by not doing this. you may be able to make an appointment with the nurse if are concerned.

I too, am on medications for tension (,high blood pressure). I take my own BP randomly every day. Also, it is a good idea to take 3 readings, a few minutes apart, and take the average. You might be surprised how the readings drop, from the first.

I also do my own blood glucose tests every day.

Doctors nowadays, are under pressure, and why would we expect them to spend 5 minutes, doing what you can do for ourselves?

Seems that the medical service has been taken over by young women. Probably because they are cheaper, and barely more than in interface between you, and Big Pharma...eyes glued to a computer screen😫

Why would a young highly qualified female doctor be ‘cheaper’ than a male equivalent? This remark unfortunately reads as faintly derogatory, although I hope you did not mean it as such?

It would appear your reply is a rhetorical comment from a feminist😉.

When there are no male doctors, then any comment about doctors nowadays, has to be about the doctors currently working in Medical Centres...which appears to be 90% female novices, as far as EXPERIENCE goes...and every year of EXPERIENCE, is worth 5 of academic 'experience'. Perhaps I should share some off the disasters I personally have had to endure over the last 3 years in Alicante....compared to the 33 years I lived in Cataluña?

Exactly!

I have no intention of entering into a ‘ who has been here longest’ competition, having been around the area on and off since the early sixties.

But by all means feel free to enlighten me further on the shortcomings of the medical system.

I simply don't have time to write a thesis, just to explain something which has manifested itself, over the period of time since the 'Government' took over the Medical system here.

Their 'cost cutting ' plan has knocked it back 25 years.

I have same experience in Santa Pola. The man makes mistakes and never checks bloodpressure. We also lost our trust in him.

My question is : Would it be possible to CHANGE you doctor for another one at the Salud and HOW to manage that in a diplomatic way? Ron

Unfortunately, it requires cutting your way through a barrier of red tape, Firstly, you have to register a complaint/reason for wanting to change your Doctor.

You then have to fill out a form, and present it to the main office in Alicante.

Of course, this may well reflect upon you, for being a 'troublesome' patient, and other Doctors would not want a patient whom has the temerity to object to the way your health is being handled.

And so...it can become a double edged sword.

Secondly, it is not a typical process, apparently, for Spanish medics to take your blood pressure, weight or levels of blood sugar, without being asked to. However, you should be called in every six months for all these checks to be carried out. Urine, blood sample, etc.

Good luck!

Hello Ron

When I changed Drs in La Mata (some years ago)  for the same reasons as you,   it wasm't a barrier of red tape!

I explained  my problem at reception, was given a form to complete and went back a week later to find out which Dr I had been allocated - and I am still with her.

Cheers
