Very enlightening .. thanks for your advice.

Ian

It's good advice. I also have a Panasonic aircon unit with external condenser for my 2 bedroom apartment, 6 years old now. I'm all electric, cooker, water boiler, etc etc. I ran the aircon quite a bit during the days in July/August, and overnight every night. I wasn't away at all during these months. My July bill from Iberdrola was 74€ and August 77€. Which I think is well worth the comfort.

In the winter I'd recommend floor rugs and curtains, plus insulation strips for windows and terrace doors. Check under main doors for draughts and put excluders on them.

I top up the heating in winter with oil filled radiators in the bedroom but use sparingly as they're quite expensive to run.

Kind regards

Steve

We heat our apartment using a portable supersir Calor gas heater. We probably use 3 gas bottles throughout the winter months at a cost of around €55 or less. If we leave bedroom doors open it takes the chill off.

With the modern style Calor gas heaters there is no condensation like the old style heaters.

We have a roof solarium and a couple of balconies and the temperature on these during the day in winter is warmer than the apartment. The apartment does have insulation but never feels warm due to being in the shade.

I can't be the only person to notice this in winter? https://www.thelocal.es/20211104/why-are-spanish-homes-so-cold/...

That piece is a bit of a nonsense. Of course poor insulation means that a property will lose heat more rapidly but by the same token it should warm quicker in the day and anyway if it's warmer out what's wrong with opening the windows to equalise?

Jazzman, 22 Euros for a bottle of gas, someone is having you over!

Last week the regulated price of Propano collected from an official outlet (Cepsa petrol station) was €17.20.

Butano is more expensive but nobody needs it. In terms of calorific value -  the heat you get out of a bottle in plain English - there is virtually nothing to choose between it and Propano so it makes no financial sense to buy it.

You may be right Darro, it's been a good few weeks since I bought my last bottle and thar was for my water heater / ascot. I also have a 2 euro discount voucher from buying that last bottle. I also have a home in France and the same sized bottle of gas is double there...

Really? I think you miss my point about the sun warming the outside of the apartment before the inside in the short space of time available during winter. Open a window to equalise...priceless!

Gas heaters are cheaper than electric heaters but produce a lot of water, great if you want condensation in winter but, hey, open a window ;-)

Again AC heating is far more efficient than electric heaters and far better/safer than gas heaters.

I'm sorry but where do you think water goes?

We were buying a bottle every 2 weeks.

Arranged now to have storage heater fitted.

Hope it does the trick.

Gracias.

Your second link was absolutely ridiculous to associate with a Calor gas heater!!

I know several people who use modern Calor gas heaters in caravans and the interior is not dripping in condensation 🤷‍♂️

We use ours, and have done for years during winter, to heat our apartment and don't have dampness.

Super sir gas heaters have been sold for years and are still popular, if they made every interior wet through as you suggest, sale would not exist.

Buy rugs for your property. I have big rugs in our lounge, smaller rugs in the hallways, rugs beside all the beds. Slippers. Wall heaters in bathrooms. Aircon units in every room. A couple of oil filled radiators for cold periods I’m installing one in the hall when we next visit. We have a 4kw inset gas fire with attached air blower. Wonderful. No dampness at all. I hate being cold. You could keep a couple of wool rugs to cover up with should you feel cold. I tend to turn the aircon units on at about 5pm. I leave them on if we go out shopping and return home to a wonderful cosy room. If you don’t turn it on until later, the room is COLD so difficult to really heat up.

Just remember, to heat a home in Ireland or the U.K. costs a lot. It will never cost you anything like that in Spain. It’s generally warm all day unlike home. Don’t  be cold. If you can’t afford to keep the heating on constantly, wrap up in layers. Wear warm socks and even a scarf. Stay warm. None of us can afford to be cold. Our health is vital.

I have a three bedroom villa, I have one gas fire and it heats the lounge, I have made curtains to cover the front door and two arch ways which leaves it very cosy in the lounge dining room, it's a big room. We do have central heating and air-conditioning but hardly ever use it. We have an electric blanket to keep us warm at night. We use about 2 bottles of gas a week which includes heating the water and the fire
