It doesn't work, it makes no sense at all.

I agree I think smiling jack's can open tomorrow because they have the food license

The problem is if they only serve drinks, people become less vigilant regarding social distancing as they consume more alcohol. If hot food is served from a premise that has a proper license then people will generally drink less as Andrew hey are eating and  be more in control of their actions.

But does social distancinng become more difficult when there are fewer places to enjoy a coffee or a Cana

Phoenixga, May I suggest that this only works if the premises in question is explicitly only allowed to sell alcohol along with food. People could order alcohol all night if the premises are prepared to serve them without purchasing food.

Agreed, the bars and restaurants are struggling, although people can travel from the UK and Ireland many are put off by the quarantine on their return, many holiday home owners are waiting until next year, many of the Expat residents want to support their local businesses but are on a budget and can't afford many outings, the latest restrictions might finish off a few more that don't have a kitchen as they are classed as drinking bars only.

They have closed a few bars on the strip in cabo roig ....I am not sure why  if you don't sell food ....would this be because they don't have a good license ...and how much food would you need to sell ..is Crisps ..a sandwich.....a tapas.  ....and could a restaurant  just sell alco...

...hol..without food.  ...

It would appear that a lot of bars have had to close as a result of their individual licences. Under the new directive/list of closures etc. the places that had to close included night clubs, discos, bar de copas etc. If their licence stated bar cafe, bar restaurant or such like, they are allowed to stay open with the normal restrictions. If the licence stated "bar" in Spain that is interpreted as a "bar de copa", ie. drinks only. Unfortunately a bar de copa in most large towns in Spain is where people gather prior to going off to clubs etc.

There are hundreds if not thousands of small bars all over Europe which cannot accommodate more than a couple of customers at a time (floor area, lack of terrace), and therefore cannot meet distancing rules. Some unfortunately are closed permanently but hopefully most will be back when the situation allows.

Hope this helps.
