We have driven same route every time  cross on tunnel. Drive to a hotel in Le Mans for first night then drive down to Bordeaux and onto Pamplona and stay in hotel for night then drive to Torrevieja on final day.      The trip is split up to roughly 500 miles a day.  Which...

... is enough for me.  We use the toll roads which are about €110   I had looked at avoiding them but my sat nav and route planners I have looked at put an extra 6 hours on.

Use the ViaMichelin app! It’s very good. Or at least give it a comparison along side google maps, I do.

I heard Spain maybe restricting movement between provinces so wondered how you’d drive down through Spain if that was the case?

At lock down in March your were allowed to travel to your place of habitation.  I think you would need proof of destination but with that hopefully you would be OK.  so essential travel is likely to be allowed even if they do restrict movement.

We left Quesada on the Sunday when lock down started on the Monday, stayed in Zaragoza Sunday night, the road north was very busy with International registrations, on the Sunday they were gone, I assume they rushed for the border even though there was no need.

We were not stopped but if we were stopped then I think they would have said, just hurry up, same in France which locked down 28 hours later.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Try doing it without tolls through Zaragoza and over the Pyrenees

Don't just rely on Satnav, get at least a Michelin map book for France (the small road don't change so they last for years) and get a great experience

You then see France and Spain, not the concrete of the Motorways

I took the Santander ferry on 1st September and rode down to Denia on my motorcycle.

As the ferry gets in at about 6pm i booked a hotel just 200km south of santander, in Navarette

Then second day 600kms to Denia

i took the toll roads for ease, of course the tolls are abolished about half way down

really enjoyed the ride, no issues at all apart from very nearly running out of petrol !

We stayed in Ace hotel in Le Mans. About 3 year old hotel. Rooms totally soundproofed no bar or restaurant, but loads nearby.  We take cooler box as we travel with our 2 dogs.  Then in Pamplona we stay at hotel iriigubel in Huarte hotel with small bar and restaurant and petrol station next door , which is handy to fill up in the morning... good luck with your trip

Hello

I am travelling at the end of October from Callais to Denia for a 3month period. I plan to drive down with my 2 dogs.

Is the hotel car park safe for me to leave the car overnight without unpacking? I am travelling alone and would like to avoid loading and unloading my car.

Many thanks

The ace hotel is in a compound, which locks the gates at 11 pm. Opened on request by reception.   Hotel in huarte is open fronting a main road ,   We only take an overnight case into both hotels and have not had any problem in 12 visits
