Hi all, we have just moved to Denia and are supposed to be here for 8 months renting a property on an Urbanization. We have been here 10 days and have been round to the neighbours about his noise ( at teatime) three times already. Has anyone any ideas how we sort this? I have formed a lot of money out that I can’t afford to loose!!

Hi

You should speak to your landlord about it as its their property.

They should help deal with the problem.

Regards

Hi,

We’ve done that and as the neighbouring house isn’t hers there’s not a lot she can do.

Ive been advised that there should be someone in charge  of the Urbanization who can help. Hopefully they will be able to help.

Thank you for replying though.

Caroline

Hi

Your landlord should know who the president of the urbanization is and their contact details.

Good luck

Oh the joys of living on an urb, you wouldn't catch me on one!!!

By Brit standards the Spanish can be extremely noisy so what you're experiencing could well be the norm and your expectations for the sort of quiet llife you're used to in Blighty could be a few notches too high.

A key point is if other near neighbours are also complaining, if not then unfortunately you're probably stuck with it.

Is your property attached to the neighbour who is making the noise? i.e next door? Or just people in the same street making racket? What noise is your neighbour making?

Unfortunately Spanish properties are not built with insulation in mind and most, are in effect, a steel reinforced concrete shell filled in with hollow bricks. This of course does nothing to insulate against travelling sound or heat loss.

You would be correct to speak to your community president (if you have one) in the first instance for advice on what to do. Other steps can be sought later on if there are grounds for it.

Yes the property is attached to the one where the noise comes from. The noise is very loud music. We spoke to him on Monday and he said just to tell him if the noise was too loud. We did that last night and he went beserk, shouting and swearing. I will contact the community president and go from there. Thank you for your help

If the music is loud call the Police. I was told loud music can only be complained about if after midnight.

Totally untrue.

I got a denouncia on past neighbours and the Police were there in a heart beat if the music started up again. If he went berserk last night then tell the Police.

There is a law about courtesy that does not translate well to English but it is courtesy around neighbours and living areas.

Good luck

Also going berserk is threatening behaviour and loud music when they know it causes problems is harrassment so do not hesitate to inform the Police.
