Hola,

we are thinking hard about selling up in the UK and making the permanent move to Spain. This would be early next year as long as a state of near normality has returned. .The area we are looking at is Denia. Probably rent for 6 months while we look around the area and identify the area we'd like to settle I've never been there but have had a couple of holidays in Javea and loved that area. We have friends who were in the process of buying in Denia before COVID came along and put everything on hold. They love the area. Most of what I've read and heard about My partner was mentioning this to a friend who has a place in the southern Costa Blanca and she told her that Denia was 'very British'. Is this the case?  Look forward to any guidance / insight that can be given.

Gracias

Ian

Not prying but I presume you will be able to meet the financial requirements after Dec 31st. which for a couple will total around €38,000 per annum for each of the the 5 years it will take to acquire permanent residency?

Denia certainly is a beautiful town. I wouldn't call it very British other than it gets a lot of British tourists.  I live in Benidorm and have visited Denia several times albeit for short periods. It is a thriving and extremely busy town during the summer months and during the holiday period but calms down considerably during winter. The harbour area is nice to look around as a visitor along with all the restaurants. I expect you will receive loads of positive feedback from anyone who lives there but on a personal note it's not a town that I would like to live full time.

Give it a good shot as Spain is a beautiful place to live with the lifestyle etc. Consider all the legalities of living in Spain full time for after 1st January 2021 including the financial requirements necessary to gain residency.

I urge you to look at Jim's Guides that can be found in the drop down menu on the left side of this page or the tab at the top of the page. You will find everything you need to know about living here legally in Spain.

I'm not sure whether I should say thanks for the advice or not !!!

This is the first I'd heard of this.

Is this a definite when the UK leaves the EU?

Regards

Ian

Thanks Steve.

I have to admit I wasn't aware of the financial commitment, I believe 38000 Euros per annum, that will be in place when the UK leaves the EU.

That will definitely put a dent in our plans.

Are there other areas in the Northern Costa Blanca that you'd recommend?

Regards

Ian

It is the default position as it stands. My personal opinion is that agreements will be reached but it really is a case of wait and see with all things crossed.

My partner and I have recently moved to Moraira having spent several years renting in different parts of Spain. We chose Moraira because it is particularly beautiful and it has been relatively easy to integrate into the community.

Denia and Javea are also great but we have definitely settled in the right spot.

I wish you well with your search and let me know if you need any recommendations for agents, solicitors etc!

Helen

Sorry to say but yes , at this moment that is the figure as it stands after 1st January 2021 when the UK will be classed as a third country. Jim's Guides will give advice on income requirements.

I (personally) can only recommend living in Benidorm as I love it here. Benidorm is not everyone's desired city to live and I fully understand that. I find Albir and Altea very nice towns but they go to quiet for me out of holiday season.

That will put a stop to a lot of people moving to Spain. Let's hope they do come to an arrangement.

Would be a major blow to the Spanish economy ???

Thanks

Ian

Thank you very much.

We will.

Someone has mentioned a potential annual charge of 38000 Euros per couple when the UK leaves the UK !!! If this is true then this will probably stop our plans in their tracks.
