We have been trying to get our belongings that we have had in storage with a reputable company since October 2020 brought to Spain from the UK, having requested this to be done in January 2021 ( now post brexit ) are now encountering lots of problems with countless forms and extra costs, Is anyone else having the same problems?

Hi Johnjane - yes we were in exactly same position and eventually managed to get our furniture and belongings delivered to our new home in Moraira a week ago. PM me if you want any help with the form completion - they appeared terribly complicated when I first looked at them but were actually quite simple. I was puzzled by request for proof of previous residence in UK, but our local Council in England were incredibly helpful and provided us with certificates. Let me know if I can help.

Hi Toodiq thanks for your reply, we found it difficult as all the forms were in Spanish, we have managed to do those now and sent them back, we have just received an email requesting proof of residency in the UK, as you have said we’re assuming we must now contact the council for this.

We are being charged £300 extra for this paperwork, was you charged for this also?

We originally tried to get our belongings brought over for the 18th January but because of the lack of information from the removal company it’s obviously taking much longer and also accruing more storage costs! Did you experience the same problems  too?

We are in Els Poblets nr Denia.

Hi - yes we too had to cough up an extra £300. We requested delivery on 14 December, they said they couldn’t do it till new year then of course we had to pay all the additional storage, the £300 and had all the hassle of the customs forms. Our goods were finally delivered on 29 Jan. The (very expensive) company we used were no help at all with offering advice on completing the forms; it was all very time consuming and expensive! Hope you manage to get yours sorted out very soon.  We went to Denia today and drove through Els Poblets by coincidence.

Hello Toodiq, did you have to pay VAT in Spain?

I'm now resident here, but need to go back to UK soonish to pack up my house there, put it on the market, and organise shipping to Spain of whatever I can't bear to part with. It's all domestic stuff, none of it new.

Any tips on a suitable (or otherwise) moving company?  What hoops I will have to jump through to achieve the move?

Any help with the paperwork would be very much appreciated; many thanks, Laurian.

It didn’t happen to be a Kent based company that you used by any chance?

The company that we used was also very expensive and not particularly helpful in assisting us on how to fill in the forms etcetera.

Hi I moved my furniture last Tuesday used Helens trucks recommended from this forum.

https://helenstrucks.com/

Helen was brilliant, very knowledgeable advised me what was needed & the team who moved my stuff couldn't have been nicer.  I had a large glass table top which was too heavy to lift & pack, told Helen & her team just packed it on arrival.  Taking about 2 weeks to get stuff through Customs.  She also does storage if you need it?

Now that you are resident in Spain are you aware that you may have to pay CGT on your house sale proceeds?

Yes, unfortunately; can't be helped. Sometimes the cards fall that way!
