My cousin in uk visited Barclays Bank today to ask if it was ok for me in Spain to use his address - they advised no problem so we can go ahead without worrying.  Thought you’d all like to know.

I suspect if/when you get a letter you'll have to declare that you are resident at whichever address you give.

I certainly wouldn't rely on the uncorroberated word of a bank employee!

It’ll do for now.

There may be a risk of confusion here. As I understand it, Barclays Bank will be continuing to provide services to their customers in Spain whereas Barclaycard, a seperate organisation, will not and will be closing non UK resident accounts. This is a result of the current Brexit situation as no deal on banking "passporting" has yet been agreed with the EU by Boris et al, which means that many, but not all, UK banking institutions will need to apply for new licenses to operate in Europe after Jan 1st. Some of those affected may choose, for commercial reasons, not to go through the hassle and it appears that this is the case with Barclaycard.. All customers of affected banking institutions should be contacted by letter to set out the position.

Banks need to know what country you are resident in for tax purposes

I have an account with Barclays which I use when I live with my son in England when I'm on holiday from Spain. His address (which is also my UK address) is on the account. When I'm back in Spain I only use Sabadell bank.

I'll stand by and see what happens. I've not had any letters from Barclays bank yet.

Ive also read the reports, and as you Steve, as a Spanish resident, with a UK address for post, as I understand it I don't think you will be affected. I am also with Barclays and have heard nothing.

I think the problem is if you don't have a UK address for correspondence.

I am not sure if banks are interested where you are or where you pay tax, they just need an address.
