The confusion arises because retirees living in various other countries, eg New Zealand, Canada to name just two, never have been entitled to pension increases, there being numerous scandalous situations of people receiving very minimal income. This is on the face of it completely discriminatory and has been the subject of many complaints for many years. The basis for this is unclear, but successive govts  have shown no enthusiasm for remedying this.

The UK has a reciprocal agreement with some countries outside the EU they can be seen if you google the agreement. These countries alongside the EU countries receive the same increases on state pension as UK residents. If the country you choose to reside in is outside these countries unfortunately your state pension will not increase. As you live in an EU country Spain you will receive the increases unless the government decides to change the law. Hope this helps j

It’s an agreement between the uk and some countries that they will continue to pay its ex pats any increases in the state pension.  Countries such as Canada don’t have this uplift agreement’ with the uk so pensioners have their benefits frozen when they go to live in Canada…not sure ...

...what other countries do this?   I saw that Canadian officials were in the uk recently trying to get this changed. Regards

Australia do as well. Uk pension has been frozen for 30 years

As the expatriates’ countries of residence are not actually funding the pension increases, nor are they financing their basic pension entitlements, this being the responsibility of the UK govt, I don’t understand the basis of these agreements.
