Hi everyone,

Does anyone know the cost of private health insurance in Spain,

Can we purchase health insurance?

we are not residents but have a property, and travel there as much as possible.

Private health insurance in Ireland is to expensive for the over 50's.

Regards

Gerry

Hi, everyone will tell you theirs is the best ! And of course to them it is, however you have to look at a lot of things.

Firstly cost, approximately 2000 euros a year for a couple.

Secondly restrictions, based on any pre-existing conditions that you declare. This is the area that needs the most attention and is dependant on your health history, as it's not just pre-existing conditions,  if there is anything that either you don't declare or the insurance company can look at and say

'must have been there before your policy incept'

then they can refuse treatment. These are classed as degenerative conditions. This is something that is very hard to challenge and of course if you are already suffering and need treatment you may need to pay, then try and claim post treatment/surgery.

Never take the cheapest on offer, as this is what you'll get and study the policy before you join.

My personal opinion of this is that 2000 euros for a couple is a cheap policy, therefore the cover will never be 100%, anything emergency will generally always be covered, however there are certain qualifying periods, and anything that could be classed as degenerative could always be challenged.

Read the policy carefully and be honest. Then you are always arguing from a solid platform.

Hi

My wife and I are 60 and 58 years old.

We pay €1200 a year for both of us for our private medical insurance. We have the PREMIUM Adapta policy with Salus which means you co-pay if you have treatment, For instance, when we visit the Doctor it cost us €7, If you have a scan I think it's around €30. This also includes a translator if required. But the care is just the same. It works great for us, and you only pay a small percentage of the cost if you need treatment.

We use  Alfonso Castro at Gran Alacant Insurances, he's brilliant, speaks English, arranges your appointments for you and checks to make sure everything went ok.

Hope this helps

Not living there take out annual travel insurance much cheaper. But you are only covered for a set amount of days per holiday. You can pay a premium to extend the days covered. Ours is 60 days cover which is adequate for us.
