Went to the Extranjeros yesterday. We have NiEs, are on the Padron, have health insurance. The police were incredibly helpful, buuut- my wife (EU citizen) isn't working and our joint monthly income (my private pension, I'm a UK citizen) is in my name although paid into our joint account. So I have to apply for my residency card first, in Valencia, which will then be approved and sent back to Gandia to be issued. Anyone else done this?????

Hello, I found your post very informative. I am planning the move to Gandia with my husband and daughter (both British passport holders). I hold an EU passport and like your wife I am a housewife. Would you be able to provide more information about your settling there? We want to move over in April this year and with the time limit on British passports of 90 days I worry if we will be able to sort our stay quickly enough. What were your first steps? I am feeling a little worried and wanted to speak with other people that have made this leap so any information you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Some background is that my husband works as a self employed contractor for a UK company and gets paid into his account monthly and we then have a shared account that he then deposits money into. I'm wondering what the threshold is if you know and if this will be an issue for us? Also with you having to apply now in Valencia how does this affect your visa status in Spain?

Sorry for all the questions and I do hope you are able to help.

Best regards

Rika

Hi, Rika, things got more and more complicated and we eventually engaged a lawyer to deal with it all. It was impossible to do it ourselves (and we both speak a bit of Spanish). My wife now has her residency card, and my application as the spouse of an EU citizen is being processed (since the end of December). As the answer to so many questions seems to be "it depends", you're probably better getting professional advice.

But you will need an address, Padron and Spanish Health insurance for starters before you can make the application. Good luck!
