Got totally ripped off with Goldcar. Had insurance but the wouldn’t accept it. Car hire ended up costing us over £350 for 10 days. Certainly couldn’t recommend them.

Had exactly the same experience with Goldcar   We had uk excess insurance plus insurance taken out through Do u Spain. Goldcar wouldn’t accept either and charged us an extra €220   It was late at night and had no other option than to pay it as we were over an hours drive from the airport so taxi would have been expensive.  Fought it on return but didn’t get any satisfaction.

Just booked with Edi for August - fingers crossed, but they get good reviews.

You did good, they’re one of the better ones. Enjoy your break.

Didnt they give you the option of holding money against your credit card?   Ive booked and already paid for my trip on June. It was expensive enough as it is!!!

If you have not bought their excess insurance they will not hand over the car until you do. Not sure what you mean against holding money against your card, they will want the money for the insurance at the time you pick up the car.

I've hired with Goldcar many times (last time in March this year) and never had this requirement for their own insurance. They do place a large excess as a temporary block on my credit card, as do most hirers.

Unfortunately no. Do think they took advantage of the fact it was late at night and there were very few car hire places open

Hi we have just returned from our trip to Alicante, we used Lara cars for the first time. I can recommend them highly, a very efficient helpful company. No problems at all and very competive prices. We will definitely use them again without doubt.
