Can anyone give me advice about renting in Gran Alicant for about 6 to 8months from Sept time (approx) I am lucky to have an Irish and a UK passport. I will be on my own, no car so reasonable access to services needed. Also is it better to go first and then organise it, or can I do it from here using sites (Idealista) how safe might that be! How long does the rental process take? Any advice would be really helpful thanks.

Don’t forget, even with an Irish passport, you are obliged to apply for residency if you intend to be there for that amount of time.

I, personally , wouldn’t sign a longer lease until I viewed in person.

Yes I totally agree, I was thinking that would be best option tx

What I would try and achieve before you arrive , is to try get an NIE number ahead of arrival. It will make the rental process quicker. Some people will privately rent using your passport only , but mostly you will be asked for one. Rentals can be organised pretty fast ....just a few days at times if it’s an empty property.

See if you can contact the Spanish embassy  in Ireland and ask if they can get you started.

Again tx Can’t believe I had forgotten that! I actually live near Manchester so will try and sort it from here x

Hi Dot

Whilst you are lucky to have an Irish passport so no 90/180 day Shengen restrictions, please remember you will still need to leave Spain each 90 day stay to go out of Shengen area(1/2 day trip to Uk maybe) to avoid illegal overstaying. Also remember if you stay in total over the year 183 days you will become a Spanish tax resident. Maybe that's why you want to split your time up from September over 2 tax years(Jan-Dec). Tread carefully and you should be OK. Wish we had Irish heritage!

Regards

Pauline

Gran Alacant is not an ideal place to live without a car. If you like the area I suggest you think about Santa Pola or El Altet.

I have thought about Santa Pola but wondered about living on my own there! Of course the same could be said about anywhere. I will give it some more thought tx

Gran Alacant would be a very good place for you to rent as there are many nationalities that live there permanently; Spanish, Irish, English, Norwegian just to name a few and the transport links; local buses, taxis, etc are excellent and you are only 20 minutes away from the airport. The closer you are to the centre obviously alleviates the need for transport, were you will find plenty of shops, restaurants and a choice of supermarkets, but you can travel very easily into Santa Pola and Alicante via the local buses. Hope this allays any fears you might have about Gran Alacant.
