Gran Alacant would be a very good place for you to rent as there are many nationalities that live there permanently; Spanish, Irish, English, Norwegian just to name a few and the transport links; local buses, taxis, etc are excellent and you are only 20 minutes away from the airport. Hi thanks for your post very helpful I am a bit torn between Gran Alicant and Santa Pola. I am going to rent for a couple of weeks and then decide, and hopefully try my Spanish out ( and improve it) tx again xx

Santa Pola is so pretty!  I’d happily live there. Don’t know anything about Gran Alicante but love Santa Pola. Before deciding, go over for a few days and check both out.

Thank you,  I think that is what the plan will be. It’s a difficult decision as I don’t know either area, I have no problem living on my own but need to be able to make friends and not feel too socially isolated! However  I am looking forward to the change because I am learning the language and want to practice  Tx again x

As mentioned Santa Pola is a lovely traditional Spanish fishing town with a lot of history and modern marina with extensive bars and restaurants and plenty of walking paths along the sea fronts north and south of the harbour and good quality beaches, but tends to be very quiet during the off season and extremely busy during peak season. Definitely a Spanish resident dominated town which would suit your needs to improve your language skills where as Gran Alacant is very multicultural, but again has a large Spanish community. There are quite a few clubs around G.A. that you can join in if that suits you need to make friends and involve yourself in the community. Obviously it’s entirely up to you to decide what better suits your requirements, but hopefully you will find out by renting in different areas before you decide. Have a look online for the Gran Alacant Advertiser as this carries usual information about the area and is published monthly. Good luck in your endeavours. Les

Hi there, I live in GA but didn't know that there were lots of clubs here. Could you give me a list of them please?

I said that there were a few clubs; don’t live there permanently, only holiday at my home there so only know about bowls, football, golf, book club, amateur dramatics, simple social club, etc. There may be many more if you check it out thoroughly and check out the Gran Alacant Advertiser for information.

Dont forget it does not matter what passport you have the 90 day rule applies and you will need to go back for 90 days before you can come back. All passports will be stamped with entry date and leaving date there is no way round it now Good Luck

Hi Thanks for your post I have been doing loads of homework about this issue including other posts on this forum. I think I was a bit naive about what I could and couldn't do and since I am retired it does not make too much difference for me to change plans. I would have liked to stay longer! Buy I aim to keep with the rules.

Hi Dots, i hope you find what you want. Both Santa Pola and Gran Alacant would be ideal for you. I have a house in Gran Alacant, but cycle along to Santa Pola 2 or 3 times a week. At a leisurely pace it takes about 25 minutes. Someone mentioned you need a car in Gran Alacant??? No idea why you would. I have never had one. The buses take you to Santa Pola or Alicante every hour, for 1.5 euros. There are urban buses. I have 28 different nationalities in my urbanisation. If Spain does not pull it's finger out with its vaccination programme you can stay at mine as the last time i was able to visit due to the pandemic was Dec 2019 !!   And i miss it.
