Hi Sarah

We moved here in November.  The local GP in Gran Alacant Health Centre speaks English and so do some of the receptionists. Everyone is very nice and the Spanish version of NHS is great and very speedy.   My husband is retired and therefore we are both entitled to free Spanish Health care, although I assumed I would have to pay but apparently I am his dependent and get same treatment!   In the last six months my husband has had a full health check and his catarract done at Elche hospital (he was still waiting for 1st NHS appointment after a year when we left Scotland)  and within 3 weeks of going to doctor with a sore knee have also had the full works at Elche where 1st doctor picked up on a problem and referred me on  and then and had an appointment for another consultant within a week.  If you are not entitled you can pay into the health care system for about 50 euros a month - it varies from area to area or go private in which case they all speak good English.  I hope this is helpful, we are in MonteFaro if you want any more info.

Bobbie
