Hi, can anyone tell me about the health care / prescription charges in Guardamar Town. I am retired and live in Guardamar and have been for nearly 2 and half years. I am 55 years old in July and living off a job pension. I have residency and tax registered here (don't pay tax as don't earn enough on my pension). I have just joined the Spanish health called convinio espacia (or something like that) which I pay 60 euros a month. I thought that I would pay cheap prescription charges or get them free, but I still pay the full amount for them....Is this correct

Thank you

GrahamLynn

You pay either 10% or nothing depending on your tax status, but only when your healthcare has been transferred to the Spanish health system via an S1 form. For most  people that when they reach state pension age.

I also pay into the Convenio Especial but unfortunately this does not entitle anyone to free prescriptions. Only medication dispensed in a hospital pharmacy is free but only specialised medication is dispensed here.

It's actually 157€ per month from age 65 as this is what I pay! Obviously it may rise over time.
