I have now been informed that Gran Alacant is busy in summer but quiet in Winter. We’re looking for somewhere that is open all year round the Orihuela Costa has been recommended.
Thanks Loraine

I can thoroughly recommend Guardamar where we bought our second home nearly 2 years ago. We have visited at all times throughout the year, including Christmas and New Year. We love that it is a year round working town with fantastic restaurants many of which are open throughout the year. Fa...

If you want 24/7 action and lots of shopping then it’s probably not the place for you but if you want an easy, relaxed ambiance then it’s worth a visit - we love it!
We did like the area on our visit but would probably try and visit in the Winter to see if it’s for us x

Hi Loraine,
After having read through your posts about re-location, I thought I'd give you a little feedback on some of the areas already mentioned: Gran Alacant is a satelite of Santa Pola which is home of a small fishing fleet and also a very popular destination with Spanish holiday makers from Madrid and Elche, the town comes to life in Semana Santa and stays that way until begining to mid-October and this can be said of many of the towns on the Costa Blanca.
Gran Alacant started as many places do e.g. Ciudad Quesada, as a housing development and as the years went by it developed into a "town" in its own right. As previoisly mentioned it is quieter in the winter months, but this is not to say that it closes, if my memory serves me correctly there are no,or very few seasonal bars, restaurants or shops in the area,in fact, quieter just means less people and for many of us living permanently on the coast the Autumn and Winter seasons are very attractive in their own way.
In many ways Guardamar del Segura is very similar to Santa Pola, the town is Spanish, but the surrounding areas such as Eden, Moncayo, El Raso and Campomar were developed over the last 25 years or so and are predominantly populated by British, Dutch, Belgians, Germans and Scandinavians, as is most of the Coast.
The Orihuela Costa is named that way because that particular stretch of coast, where you will come across places like Los Altos, Playa Flamenca, La Zenia, Cabo Roig and Mil Palmeras to name but a few, is in the municipality of Orihuela, which is a town some 35km inland. Even though this part of the coast is open all year round it is still quieter in the winter months but much the same as Guardamar and Gran Alacant I would hazard a guess and say that around 95% if not 100% of bars, restaurants and shops are open all year.
As a general rule of thumb, if you're interested in relocating to a coastal area then everywhere North of Pilar de La Horadada is open all year but to the South, starting in San Pedro del Pinatar it is much much quieter out of season. One more thing you might want to take into consideration are the beaches, Gran Alacant and Guardamar have long sandy beaches with dunes and the Orihuela Costa has a mixutre of small coves....
Sorry if that went on a bit but I tried to keep it as concise as possible and I hope the feedback helps. If you need any more information about areas or life on the Coast, please feel free to drop me a line...one final thing, my family relocated here almost 25 years ago and have no regrets....Good Luck, JP

Hi JP
Your feedback is great thank you for taking time to provide this.
We keep going back to Torre de la Horadada as when we seen it again this year there has been a new shopping complex built which is a real bonus.
Thanks Loraine
Hi Loraine,
No worries you're welcome...all the best,
JP
