Hi Vernon, on one side almost of the private medical insurance providers issue a separate certificate or letter to go with the policy just for residencia purposes or applications. On the other side, many of the medical companies establish a difference between 'medical hospital stay' (when no surg...

...ery takes place but yes in-patient treatment)  limiting the period covered per year to 30 or 60 days depending on the plan, and 'surgical hospital stay' (when a surgery takes place), this without any limit of days, so unlimited.

Although the regulation and requirements in this regard are uniform for all Spain, this seems to be interpreted differently according to which police station and officer in question. Our clients from Orihuela Costa area for example never had problems so far, while in Elche yes for instance.

 Kind regards, Alfonso

Oh ok thank you for the info

Hi everyone im wondering if anyone else has had trouble getting residency because of having Asssa health care , As i was refused it because there silver policy was not good enough at Elche police station , thanks

Hi Alan

I just came across your post re being denied residency as your ASSSA policy was considered insufficient. I have an appointment for residency on Thursday in Elche and I too have taken out an ASSSA policy thinking it would be sufficient. I have the ASSSA Plus policy. I’m not sure if this is the same as the Silver policy you mention.

How did you resolve this issue? Did you have to get a different policy with another insurer, or did you upgrade your ASSSA policy? Do you happen to know if the ASSSA Master policy is considered valid at the Elche police station?

Thanks in advance for your help!

It seems it’s a hit and miss process. I had an appointment at Elche office on Feb 15th and was given my residency certificate (had to pick it ip the next day). I have ASSSA insurance (ASSSA Plus) and it was accepted, and very little attention was paid to it. I have also paid for a year’s insurance up front. The wait times are considerably less at Elche, but it seems at times they can be stricter than at Orihuela for example.........

Just to relate my own experience. Up here in Marina Alta I was advised by my Gestoria to make sure my Health Insurance policy (from DKV) was accompanied by a separate small certificate that confirmed it complied with Reseidencia requirements because they were aware of some rejections. They did this and I presented both. My payments are not a year up front, they're quarterly. I was in and out of Denia Extranjeros in 20 minutes.
