Hi All Please forgive me if this has been answered before.

I have just returned to Spain and i am attempting to get my head around the electric rate changes.

I found this.

From July 2021

Peak: It will be the most expensive. It will be between 10 am and 2 pm and 6 pm and 10 pm, from Monday to Friday.
Middle: It will have an intermediate cost. Between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. and between 10 p.m. and 12 p.m., Monday to Friday.
Low: It is the cheapest of the three. It will be established between midnight and 8 a.m., Monday through Friday. On weekends and national holidays.

At peak hour it will be 2.5 times more expensive than the middle tariff and that in turn will be more than 1.5 times the low tariff, according to calculations by the specialized energy consultancy Ingebau.

I visited the Iberdrola web site in a vain attempt to guage the impact on me. ICurrently  have a plan that gives cheaper power at night through to 12 or 1 oclock

Any help in getting to better understand this situation would be appreciated

Regards

Richard

Hi Richard,

Confusing isn’t it.   I found a great little app called Things by Craig, what the tariff !  it keeps a continuous record of which rate is in force at the time, how much time is left at that rate and exactly which rate is next in line.

We are on the day/night tariff which Iberdrola say will continue until the contract renewal date which for us is October then we will go onto the new timings - we plan to do all washing, bulk cooking etc at the weekends which is supposed to be the cheapest times.

Regards Ruth.

Interestingly, I did some sums earlier this year just before all this nonsense appeared. We had the night time tariff, but as we are never going to be organised enough, I couldn’t really see the advantage.

So I added up all the kWh used for a year on this rate, and then calculated the cost using their standard flat rate,. Not forgetting to factor in the daily standing charge. It transpired that it would have been a few euros cheaper to have used the standard rate, so I changed the contract to this. Partly this is because the standing charge is cheaper on this rate than on any of the supposedly less expensive tariffs.

Hi, looking at the Craig app, it says we go on to the medium rate at 8am this morning, Saturday.  I am confused because I thought weekends are the cheap rate?

Can anyone please help me with this?
