Hello everyone.

We will be arriving in Spain to live permanently on 1st December 2022, our NLVs won't start until 1st Jan 2023 as we'll be receiving income from work in December 2022.

My question is:

If we arrive in Spain and start renting our house on 1st Dec 2022, and get registered for Padron straight away, when do we apply for our TIE? I know you need to apply for your TIE within 30 days of your arrival in Spain, but our NLVs won't start until 31 days after we arrive in Spain. I assume "arrival in Spain" is the date in your passport, not the date your NLV starts but is that correct? I've heard that we need to apply, not necessarily obtain our TIE within the 30 days, but does "apply" mean book an appointment, or attend the appointment? And can you get your TIE when you have your NLV visa in your passport but it's not yet started?

Also I've heard that TIE appointments in Alicante have been difficult to obtain - has anyone requested one recently and were they easily available or not? How long was the period between booking and attending the appointment as this will help with our timetable planning?

Thanks for your help.

Lloyd

It only takes a couple of days now to get the 1st appointment for tie and 4-6 weeks for the second appointment to collect the card.

Hi I thought you couldn't work with a NLV.

That is correct, no working for any gain allowed with the NLV otherwise it could invalidate the visa.

The OP has stated that the NLV doesn't start until after the month which includes the income.

Technically you cannot go on a padron until you are actually resident so it's TIE first then padron.

Also no, you cannot apply for your TIE's before your NLV start date. You might be able to make an appointment but won't be able to attend one before that date.

Thank you, this is really helpful. I'm sure I've read though that you need to take your padron certificate to your TIE appointment. Is that definitely not the case?

Hi Lloyd,

That's correct.  When you go to your Town Hall, explain that you need the Padron certificate in order to make your TIE application.  Also, check what documentation you will need to provide - some Town Halls are content with passport and property deeds or rental contract, but others want the kitchen sink.

Kind regards

Kim
