Hello,

I have recently bought a data only Mobile Wifi device together with a Pay As You Go data sim. It works fine here in the UK and is on the EE network on my iPad and laptop, and can be topped up online. Can someone advise please if this will work in Spain?

Thank you,

Brian

Hi I think they only let you use in Europe for a bit I have tesco contract mobile with data after 3 months they stopped my data as I was outside uk for so long but left my minutes. I think the provider in Spain gets on to them about data usage . Regards Paul

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply Paul. My deal is data only so there are no minutes. I suspect there may be different rules for phones as opposed to data only mobile wifi hotspots. I may be wrong though!!

I used one for about 3x weeks last year here and it worked very well, it used approx 5gig of data which I purchased from eBay in the uk which cost me about £10. which sounds very suspect but is true, I also got a free £10. top up which I didn’t use, the only draw back was you had to use the 5 gig within 30 days, hope this helps...

Thanks Andy, that's realy helpful. Did you use it in the same way as in the UK or did you have to make any changes to the settings? Some websites mention changes to settings such as set to 'automatically connect even when roaming'.

That may no longer be the case since the changes to operating within EU so I'd welcome your experience.

Thank you,

Brian

I use three data sims in my dongle when here in spain although i do activate it in the uk im not sure you have to, its good to go as soon as im here. I think the 12gb and three gb are ok for 12 months from activation and the 24gb one has a 24 month lifespan.

I don't know but wouldn't it be better to buy a Spanish data sim?

Hi,

I don't think it should make any difference now that in the EU calls/texts/data come off your UK allowance as if you were in the UK. I was over in the Urb last week. I have a mifi device on EE. I topped up £10 using a top up card in Sainsburys before I went.  No adjustments needed to settings, just link tablet/phone to the mifi and away you go. Performance will depend on your signal strength. Sometimes it was great, other times a bit slower but overall it was effective. My £10 bought 2GB of data. It only lasts 30 days and then any unused data is lost. I'm not sure how much we used but there were 4 of us using it for light surfing/social media and it didn't run out in the week we were there. Probably a total of two hours a day.

As all the bars/restaurants have wifi, we ony needed it in the house.
