Hello there!

(Not sure If I post this letter in the right place)

In January we are traveling to La Marina, Spain for the winter months, and would like to obtain the "NIE" number in order to open bank accounts, purchase a vacation home etc.

Wonder how can we get the NIE number? I already called the Spanish Embassy in Budapest, Hungary. I was told that I can go the to local police department in La Marina, and apply for the NIE number.

I called the police department in La Marina, but unfortunately they don't speak English there. I am learning Spanish, but I'm not as fluent as I wish to be, and unable to carry on a basic Spanish conversation yet.

So I need some help. Can anyone guide me to the right department, or provide me a phone number, email address, website etc, where I can some information in English?

Yes, Go there and take a translator with you....

Try calling George. Speaks fluent Spanish, English and German. Efficient and very reasonably price.

Speak to him before you come, that will save you some time.

It's easily done at the police station and no real need to incur additional costs.

It will be important to take a translator if you can't speak good Spanish. (Usually around €20 for the first hour)

Yes, an appointment is needed to submit NIE. Please call the phone number 037697900, extension 1, from Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 13:00.

Hello Steve. That's a great news! Looks like you have done this before. How do I find a translator? Are there any service available for something like this? I don't really know anybody in Alicante, or Costa Blanca are.
