Children’s car safety

Can anyone tell me if there is any rules or regulations on children’s car seats? We are hiring a car while on holiday and our grandson is coming over with his parents he’s 3 in may.

There certainly are rules, but they keep changing and I haven't made an attempt to keep up to date. All I can do is give you some links to look at. 

The first is from the Spanish equivalent of the Ministry of Transport, and is a magazine you can click through. Unfortunately it's in image format, so you can't copy and paste into Google Translate.

I'd guess you'd need a Group 1 child seat. 

In theory you should check what the latest classification of seat is required, but it's probable that if stopped, the police officer would just look to see that the child is safely secured in a seat - I doubt he'd look at the label on it.
