Dear all

Is this correct that the IBERDROLA have whacked the electricity cost by 33%

I just received our Jan bill and the charge is the highest I have ever paid since the last 5 years

I also heard that this price increase is illegal and certain court case is being prepared against the IBERDROLA

Has anyone got any comments?

The 27% increase in electric prices only effected those that are in the regulated market and it was only during the extremely cold snap as the demand on the national grid was high.   If you are with Iberdrola Clientes and in the unregulated market you will be on a fixed price contract for 12 months, the price will increase when your contract is due for renewal.

Hi there,

Being new..very new...to Spain..from the U.S. We were shocked to see that our electricity bill was so high!!

We are super careful and when our bill was high last month we really got even more careful..

We did hear that Ibedrola was planning to go up..but 33%..?? Really is that true.

I'm a single guy so all my electricity use is down to me. I'm with Iberdrola and my bill did go up quite a bit for January. But during the last lockdown there was a two month period where one charge was very high and one very low, we can but live in hope!

I recognized when I moved that things would be different- I'd had a holiday home here for years - but the one thing that still niggles me is the standing charges. Grr.

There are two periods of the year when I hardly use any electricity - April to June and September to November but it's still annoying that electricity is so expensive here. But then it's still a whole lot cheaper overall than living in England with electricity AND gas bills each month. And don't get me started on Council Tax!!

I've always found it strange that we dont have a solar panel on every roof in Spain. Surely with climate change carbon restrictions in place the government will be forced to discount this to make it affordable to everyone. We do have an abundance of sunshine here why is it not used for energy?

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Its not necessary to physically visit Iberdrola. I changed my contract to the "8 cheap hours" option using the website. You can change your 8 hours up to 8 times per year, I've already changed twice, it would be a pain to have to visit an office to do this!

Despite resenting as much as any of you the electricity bill (and we are miles out in the campo with a completely electric house, no gas) it may be worth reiterating that much of the bill is comprised of various taxes which are applied over and above the actual unit cost. Also, all electricity companies in UK apply standing charges, this is not something unique to Iberdrola.. Admittedly there were a couple of companies who allegedly didn’t, but their cost per KwHr was actually higher.

Probably because there is a tax on sunshine in Spain if you use panels lau

Hi Steve,

where do you do it? I don't seem to have the option (see attached).
