I have just returned to La Marina after working abroad for a number of years. I am somewhat shocked and disappointed at the amount of litter particularly plastic and cans around the area. We took a walk around the commercial area nesr Lidl on Sunday and the amount of rubbish strewn around was very upsetting, is there any initiatives at local level such as community clean up days ?

Hi

There was a  community clean up of the canals in June. They were dredged as an experiment and then after it all dried out the various items were counted to make an assumption of what was in the canals. Unfortunately I don't now the outcome as I had to come back to the UK.

The reason I know because I was horrified when I thought a large lorry with grabber was fly tipping all the dredged rubbish on the land by my villa. I did actually report it and it wasn't until the police got involved that they found out what was going on.

It was run by the Spanish and I was invited to help which due to circumstances I wasnt around.

Anyway sorry for going on but something like a community clean up would always be useful for awareness and get everyone together. If I'm around at the time I would be more than happy to help.

Regards

Hi Mary,

There's a big market in that area on Saturdays.  You say you went for a walk on Sunday, so I wonder if the litter was left over from the market?  It may be worth reporting it to your Town Hall.

Kind regards,

Kim

There is a group called ‘the wombles’ that do a sweep on a Wednesday normally at 5 pm, they chose an area and go litter picking. Not sure who the contact is though
