It was recently announced, Spain has surpassed Germany and France in having the largest independent network of Pharmacies in Europe. The figure being in excess of 22,000 Pharmacies.

One third of the total sited in Provincial Capitals, two thirds sited within Municipalities.

Each Pharmacy is said to, on average, serve a client base of about 2,100 Customers which is the amongst the top ratio of Clients per location in Europe.

Up until a few years ago it was legal to obtain them without a prescription but the law changed so anyone selling them over the counter without a prescription is taking a risk.
