We have a villa in La Marina and have had for 19 yrs . We visit several times a year to stay , we are resident in UK. My husband 84 , has recently been diagnosed with Bronchiectasis and needs oxygen  at times . The problem we have in the UK ,is the cost of medical / travel insurance, to enable us to continue to visit . Has anyone found a way of insuring ourselves in Spain . We know at present the EHIC is valid , it could end with Brexit. Can anyone help or suggest any way around this issue . We so want to be able to spend our time visiting our beloved Spain . Thank you in anticipation

By definition travel insurance is cover for travel outside of ones normal place of residence so I think you're likely encounter some difficulty in finding the cover you seek in Spain firstly in principal and then when introducing the age and preexisting medical issues you mention.

If you do find somebody apparently offering such cover then scrutinise the small print VERY thoroughly and be 100% certain that it genuinely does cover what it claims to.

Good luck and do let us know how you fare because I'm sure it's a topic which will resonate with many.

It is widely believed, and indeed the Spanish government has stated, that there will be no change to the “EHIC” agreement after Brexit regardless of a deal or not.

Hi, we use Ehicplus insurance company who have a competative pricing for existing conditions. Google their website and see if they can offer you a decent policy. We buy a yearly policy with them.

Pauline.

Thank you for this information . I will go on and get an estimate . The best so far was 3500 for an annual and 2000 for 3 weeks . That not a viable thing to do . I will let you know the outcome .
Many thanks Cecelia

Good grief thats extortionate. We both have high blood pressure and I have heart failure with other heart problems and our latest cover was £380 for the year. I,m sure you,ll find them reasonable compared to your other quotes

Regards

Pauline.

Just completed the information for EHIC+ and came back as my husband was uninsurable at this time . However if we allow a little more time, over the year , when he first had the stroke . They felt they could possibly help , which sounds encouraging after Jan 2020 ,when it will be a year since he had the mini stroke . So will keep you updated as it could help others as you have  helped us . Many thanks Cecelia

Read the small print on any travel insurance, people think they are covered for private medical treatment, but this is not the case most policies will state that you have to use your EHIC card in the first instance to obtain treatment, So just what they are providing who knows, I speak from experience beware.
