Good morning,

My parents live in La Marina, and my mother has Alzheimer's.

I wonder if anyone could please let me have some/any information that I can pass on to my Father as to what services are available to help him and how he would go about getting this help.

I was due to fly over to Spain last week so that we could book an appointment with the Social Worker that comes in on a Friday, but as our flights were cancelled, this is not possible now as my Father cannot leave my Mother for too long on her own.

Are you please able to give me any information on help that my Father might be entitled to or is able to get and how to get it please?  He is unable to ring or visit as my Mother wants to know constantly where he is.

Mother is at a stage where she forgets my Father or thinks he has been missing for a week, but other days she isnt too bad.

Many thanks for any help anyone can provide, as we I am struggling to know where to start.

Kind regards

Many thanks for your help - I will try the link, my parents are residents, but Mum doesn't know that she has this, so it is really hard to take her anywhere to be assessed, as she wants to know why as there is nothing wrong with her.  My father is just wanting some advise as to what can be done or who to talk to when the time comes, as he is her main carer, they get no other help from anywhere.  The Social Worker I mentioned is apparently from the council and she attends a session on a Friday for people to go and talk to her, you make an appointment and she can advise, but my father cant get there to do that without leaving my mother which is difficult.

I will try the link, much appreciate your help.

Thank you

For the future, there's a national association:

https://www.alz.org/es/dementia-alzheimers-spain.asp

And once your mum gets to the stage where she's diagnosed, then it might be worthwhile if your dad checks if he can claim UK attendance allowance or whatever they call it these days.

Many thanks  for your response, Mum has been diagnosed, but she has forgotten that bit, I will see if I can find out about the UK Attendance Allowance thing, again, I appreciate everyone's help as I am so far away and am struggling to do anything to help them both.

Kind regards

Fiona

Very sad to read your posts Fiona, it is horrible illness your mother has. Hopefully your Mum will get all the help required. I am unfortunately speaking from experience as my mother has suffered over 10 years from this illness. I don’t need to tell you but it will be difficult for your Dad to manage your Mums needs as there is so many stages this illness takes you through but please tell your Dad to look after himself as well.

Kind Regards

  Jim
