I presume from the title that you left Spain 6 years ago and had residencia then.

For all practical purposes you cannot be resident in two places at the same time so by returning to live in UK you gave up your Spanish residency.

Additionally Spanish residency lapses if you absent yourself from the country for 2 years or more.

In short your previous residency counts for nought so were you to return you'd be starting from scratch just the same as any other new arrival.

You have got me worried about tax because I argued with the British and Spanish authorities for a few years although my fiscal rep.was supposed to sort it all before we left Spain.

Back in 2001 I had a social security bill due to my Gestoria at the time not doing his job correctly.

I did not find this out until 3 years later after getting a large bill.

I returned to UK in 2010 still disputing this bill, and I am now returning to live in Alicante area this year.

This has been a concern as obviously we are buying a property and reapplying for residencia, however my lawyer has advised and confirmed that after 7 years, any outstanding debts are written off and cannot be charged for again.

I am going to tread carefully when I travel back to Spain,

Spain has that many different laws /rules and I think-`asking that particular fiscal rep. may help or not?
