Hi, we are in the process of buying an apartment in El Pinet. There is no airconditioning installed there at the moment. We want two way A/C in the loungeroom and the two bedrooms. Can these be powered by a single fan unit? What brand would you recommend? Panasonic, Mitsubishi or similar? Which brands are the most quiet? Which ones are the most economic? Local contractor or Leroy Merlin?

I am on the understanding, that from the 1st of September 2022 Air Conditioning, Freezers and Refrigeration equipment in general will be up to 10% more expensive in Spain, it is a reform of the tax on Fluorinated gases, which already existed to the manufacture of the goods, this now is being passed on to the suppliers and the consumer.

Before you go ahead, check with the apartment management if it is allowed to install outdoor units first

Having 3 x indoor units powered by 1 x external condenser unit is doable, but not practical on an apartment type building. The outdoor unit will of a shape & size that is not suitable to be wall mounted, my advice is to go for 3 x separate split units, depending of course on whether there is enough space to fix 3 x condenser units onto the building wall, and that you have permission to do so from tha apartment management team.

Can you see what systems other owners have installed?

Cost for 1 x outdoor unit us generally in the region of 400 - 600 euros, but with ever increasing costs, who knows what the current going rate is?

First if all establish if you are allowed to install a/c and then, if so, get quotes from recommended installers - many of which have been recommended by various forum members
