Can I bring my large collection of reptiles to Spain when I move?

Hi

I have a large collection of snakes and lizards and just want to check that I would be able to bring them to Spain from the UK (driving).  I am also hoping to breed them so wondered if there people are likely to purchase reptiles for their enjoyment or hobby?

Many thanks

I can't envisage any real problem. However, if any of them are on the DEFRA list of protected species, then you'd officially need DEFRA approval. If any of them are indigenous to Spain, then you'd also need approval from both the Spanish state and the autonomous community you plan to move to.

Having said that, we brought out our Mediterranean spur-thighed tortoise, after getting all the necessary approvals, and weren't checked at any of the border crossings.

Hi Jim

We would love to bring our Sulcata Tortoise with us to Spain next year. What approvals do you need to bring a tortoise over please?

Many thanks
