Why do people live in the past - Brexit is history,  time to move on in lide .

The past? We have learned by history ( & hope to learn from that, & not replicate). Having said that, brexit is certainly not in the past. It's currently ongoing in the media, political changes & those affected by it. V

It's a bit like covid, you think it has died out then suddenly another outbreak out of nowhere. I rarely hear much about brexit here in the UK, but it's a regular topic on this forum.

That's not true, and I'm surprised if you thought such a statement would go unchallenged!

While it is true that the Daily Mail and Daily Express gloss over the failure of Brexit for obvious reasons, most middle ground media outlets are still covering it.

Today, just by coincidence, Sky News has a Brexit story on the front page of their website, linked below in blue text.

Sky News Brexit article

Also, if I recall correctly, even the former Governor of the Bank of England Mark Carney has referenced Brexit in recent comments about the British economy, although the current Governor is running scared of Tory anger!

The elephant remains in the room (excuse the pun!)

Hi everyone
Maybe it’s been asked before but can anyone name me a single benefit from Brexit?

The only thing that I can see where the UK wasn't held back by the EU was in the pandemic when the vaccination programme was much faster than the EU.

People may say that wasn't the case and the UK would have vaccinated early anyway but we will never know.

Yes I voted for Brexit and wouldn't have done if I had known the full implications but who did. I suppose some people who had a crystal ball will say whatever but what's done is done

No one could understand the full implications whatever they may say

Brexit is costing the UK economy £40 billion a year in lost tax revenue.  https://www.thelondoneconomic.com/politics/brexit-has-reduced-uk-tax-receipts-by-40-billion-a-year-340864/

What sad sad sad people some of you are.  Get a life. Brexit has happened. You cannot go back. There are positives and negatives that have come out of this divorce for both the EU and the UK.  it would be better if your energies were directed it attempting to make your post Brexit life better.  If you really cannot stand the situation, then get off the fence and become a Spanish or other EU citizen, learn the language and move on with your life. Remember, a man cannot ride two horses at the same time.

Hi Old Salt,

We have become aware of many of the negatives, but pllease could you tell us what are "the positives" that have come from Brexit for the UK and the EU please?

Many thanks,

Kim

Hi Ned,

The Leave campaign focused on border control and immigration, our financial contributions as members of the EU, which would be redirected to the NHS, and taking back control of our country's law book.  If anyone researched only these items before the referendum, they would have known that th...

...ey were optimistic at best, but I doubt any of us could have foreseen the detail of the full, negative impacts of Brexit.  For example, the loss of "passporting rights" for our Financial Services industry and how that has disadvantaged many UK citizens, whichever side of the debate you sit; the additional costs of doing business with our largest trading partner with, in the worst cases, a number of UK SMEs going out of business; the loss of EU immigrant workers from the NHS and others who picked our fruit and veg.

Your question has been asked many times before and used to result in those of us who voted Remain being called "Remoaners" by Brexiteers, along with their "We won, get over it" mantra. I have a recent recollection of one Brexiteer member, Bencr85, admitting that they made a mistake by voting to leave the EU; however, whilst they bravely and openly accepted their error, they're no more capable than me or you of giving an example of a Brexit benefit.  In the meantime, all other Brexiteers appear to have gone silent.

Is there something in particular that has prompted your post?  Perhaps sharing that with other members may be more helpful for you?

Kind regards,

Kim

I agree with everything Kim has said, I voted leave on the promise of taking back control of our borders, taking back control of our courts and laws being overturned by European courts, trading with many non EU countries and the money saved would be spent on the NHS. None of these things have ever happened.

Yes Steve, your right, there is still the odd story cropping up. The BBC seem to have dropped their brexit section, not a lot in the Guardian either, not even much on the NI protocol lately, perhaps like Gib a deal being done in the background.

I am in the UK most of the year and I can say with certainty that it is not a big topic of conversation. Fortunately even on here it's getting less.

It’s always going to be in the news in some or other, people need to stop whinging about how bad it is, what we were promised(and not getting) etc, etc…- the majority voted, just got to get on with our lives now, accept it for what it is…
