Hello Shiela

As this will be your only health cover for at least a year, basic health cover isnt acceptable, you need a comprehensive insurance with full cover.

I can't reommend one as it doesnt apply to me but I'm sure, those who, currently  have medical insurance will offer suggestions.

Cheers

Hello Sheila,

I agree with Elinspain, you need a fully comprehensive cover without co-payments, as this is a requirement from the Spanish consulate. Also, the insurance is a 1 year contract, which if you do not have a NIE number and Spanish bank account, you will have to pay the year up-front.

When taking out health insurance, please have a look at the companies Medical Network, as some are limited, in addition, if you are thinking of keeping the insurance for more than 1 year, I would recommend you have a look at insurance companies that have a LIFETIME coverage (this measn that they can't kick you out in case of high medical expenses, age or serious illness (once accepted)), as far as I know only 2 companies have this in Spain: DKV and AXA.

Feel free to contact me if you would like further advice, I will be happy to help. I work in an insurance agency through AXA.

I hope this helps!
