I personally think it is exploitative of the banks to charge over 100 Euros a year for maintaining a simple current account. They earn money from investing your money without needing to charge, as is evidenced by the UK banks. However the fee charging is protected by lack of competition either from within Spain or from without with absence of international accounts that can pay utility bills in the quaint Spanish way.

As soon as Monzo or Transferwise or one of the others allow me to pay my utilities, I shall say goodbye to Sabadell.

Sabadell are an excellent Bank to use, plenty of branches, great online facility, charges are reasonable at around €30 per quarter.

140 per year but not sure if we pay for transfers. So we opened Cajamar rural account,  its free ,we can transfer to international banks for free .

I think its like a credit union in Ireland,  Community based

I was just at the bank ( sabadell)  today.  Apparently they will be hiking the fees for non res accounts n the new year. Not sure how much.
