sorry!  I missed this.  Ive not yet had my first IBI, so watch this space :-).  But same as Russ for me - most utilities are now paid  by d/d, however my community fees have to be paid by d/d from my Starling Account (I pay a year up front).  Unfortunately they dont accep...

...t non Spanish iban numbers (which directly contravenes SEPA rules .. but who is monitoring!).  For me, these minor inconveniences disappear completely in comparison to dealing with my ex Spanish Bank - Sabadell - who robbed me of some of my life :-)

Doh!  Not d/d for my community fees ... but bank transfer.  Apols!

I have just opened a Starling Bank Account and also a Euro Starling Account. I have Euro money in my Sabadell Account that I want to transfer some into my Starling euro Account. When I look online to do a transfer I cannot work out how to do it.

Option 1 is National Transfer. This is fairly straightforward, but automatically populates the Start of the Iban with ES

Option 2 is International . I think this is the one I would use.

It then says

Abroad Transfer   then Apply

It then says below.

I cant work out what to put in BIC of beneficiary entity and presume the next 2 are UK and my name. It hen mentions charges. Has anyone done this and are there any charges.

Thanks

(*) The BIC is mandatory for non-EEA countries and non-euro transfers.

Country of beneficiary entity*Beneficiary name* AddressTownCountry*3.  Payment details

Shared: The charge for the fees is shared between the issuer and the beneficiary. The issuer assumes the price of his or her bank for the service of issuing the transfer. The beneficiary assumes the price of his/her bank for the service of receiving the transfer.

Issuer: The issuer assumes all the expenses of the transfer. For international transfers sent to Spain and amounts of 50,000? or more the fees can only be for the issuer's account.

Beneficiary: The beneficiary assumes all the expenses of the transfer.

I have contacted Starling and they have said I need to do a SEPA transfer from Sabadell. Have tried getting through to Sabadell, but no luck .

Hi Handbag1,

If I were you, I'd email your branch and get in writing what fee you will be charged for making the transfer.

The reason I say this is because I have a pre-payment card with Sabadell.  I don't make enough online purchases in Euros to make it worth having a Spanish credit card, so this is handy for occasional purchases.

It takes about 30 seconds, in my online banking, for me to transfer the money from my account to the card.  I noticed one day that there was a small balance on the card - less than €4 - so I thought I'd transfer it back to my account (another 30 second transaction that I could do online).  Like you, I noticed that there appeared to be a fee attached, but why? I was making an electronic transaction, from Euros to Euros, even within the SAME bank - yet Sabadell were going to charge me €8 for doing so!  Needless to say, I cancelled the transaction 😉

Kind regards,

Kim

Have managed to open a Starling acount and transfer money both ways , so thank you for your help. Much appreciated. Once I got it set up was quite easy.

Just now trying to find out which cash points won’t charge me a fortune for withdrawals.

There was no charge for a bank transfer in Euros to Starling from Sabadell, but if you want Starling to change it to sterling there is a small charge

I transfered the money in Euros from Sabadell to Starling with no charges ...its just a normal transfer in euros using your starling IBAN and BIC

I have recently opened an account with Starling, very good for travel withdrawals and card payments.

You can also open a Euro account alongside, operates from the one card.

The Euro side of things allows direct debits, I am considering closing my Spanish bank account and using the Starling euro account to pay direct debits on holiday home, no charges, has anyone done this ?

If so, how easy/difficult was it to move the direct debits over ? Starling have a switching service in the UK but obviously will not apply to Spanish bank accounts.

May I just check if Starling are happy for you to be residing in Spain and contiuing with their account.
