I also was charged 28 euro a year even though I had a large amount on deposit which was earning peanuts, I was told if I had my pension paid in banking would be free which I did when I saw a charge on my statement of 28 euros for my wife I  was told she did not qualify as she did not have a pension paid in, this year I was told that to get free banking I either had to have 30,000 in a fund buy an insurance or get a credit card, so my wife and I now have credit cards that we don't really want but if we use them twice a month then we can have free banking so that is the route we have gone down, no  hardship to put 4 purchases on the credit card just make sure you keep the receipts and have the money in your account at the start of the month to pay the bill in full, I just wonder what they will come up next with

Curly48 I was given a credit card for myself and my wife to operate on my account even though I didn't need another one. It was only later that I realised that I was being charged 40 euros per card per year for the privilege. I don't know if this is the same with your bank but it might be prudent to check.
