Hi

Hotel confinement/quarantine is for non UK residents or citizens from the red list countries. UK residents and citizens will need  only to quarantine in the safety of their own homes.  So your friends will better off complying with the regulations without the fear of fines or in the fut...

On the plus side they will get their vaccines a lot quicker in the UK.

This is completely wrong information.

Hi Dodster,

According to the Gov.UK website, Vivienne IS correct:

"Before you return to the UK you must provide your journey and contact details. You must self-isolate when you enter the UK from any foreign country except Ireland, unless you have a valid exemption. From 15 February, when entering the UK from a country with a travel ban to the UK, you must quarantine in a government-approved hotel for 10 days."

Spain is not currently a country with a travel ban to the UK.  The UK's current 'red list' of countries is:

  • Angola
  • Argentina
  • Bolivia
  • Botswana
  • Brazil
  • Burundi
  • Cape Verde
  • Chile
  • Colombia
  • Democratic Republic of the Congo
  • Ecuador
  • Eswatini
  • French Guiana
  • Guyana
  • Lesotho
  • Malawi
  • Mauritius
  • Mozambique
  • Namibia
  • Panama
  • Paraguay
  • Peru
  • Portugal (including Madeira and the Azores)
  • Rwanda
  • Seychelles
  • South Africa
  • Suriname
  • Tanzania
  • United Arab Emirates (UAE)
  • Uruguay
  • Venezuela
  • Zambia
  • Zimbabwe

Kind regards,

Kim

Thanks Kim but Vivienne says that it is only non- UK residents and citizens travelling from red list countries that have to undergo managed quarantine. That's incorrect. Anyone travelling from  a red list country will be physically quarantined. Agreed that Spain is not on the red list but that is a different point. Happy to apologise if I'm wrong.

Hi Dodster,

Vivienne is correct on that point too - from Gov.UK:

"British and Irish Nationals, or third country nationals with residence rights in the UK will be able to enter the UK. They must self-isolate for 10 days on arrival along with their household. They cannot use the Test to Release scheme."

Yes, they have to quarantine, but in their own homes (which has been the UK rule for at least 6 months), not managed hotel quarantine.

Kind regards,

Kim

I can’t post a link from my phone but hope you can see this photo.   Currently UK residents arriving from 33 countries on red list have to quarantine at home.  From 15 February they must quarantine in a government selected hotel. Non UK residents who have visited one of the 33 countries in the preceding 10 days will be prohibited from entry to UK.

The rules change from 15 February when UK residents arriving in UK from one of the 33 red list countries will have to quarantine in a hotel.  If arriving from a non red list country they will continue to be required for 10 days at home.

Phew....so we're now all agreed that it is also UK residents and citizens travelling from red list countries that need to go into quarantine hotels when they come into effect on the 15th not only non uk residents and citizens as originally posted.
