You're welcome Vivienne - the key word in your post being "current".  Dodster has now clarified that he was talking about new regulations proposed from 15 February, although these are yet to be confirmed on Gov.UK.

Kind regards,

Kim

Phew....so we're now all agreed that it is also UK residents and citizens travelling from red list countries that need to go into quarantine hotels when they come into effect on the 15th not only non uk residents and citizens as originally posted.

Epic.

So to recap. Original post was....

"Hotel confinement/quarantine is for non UK residents or citizens from the red list countries. UK residents and citizens will need  only to quarantine in the safety of their own homes."

I said this was incorrect. Why? Because there is no existing hotel confinement in place in the UK so the only "current" guidance for hotel quarantine is that which relates to it commencing on 15th February. That guidance makes clear that all arrivals from red list countries will be quarantined in hotels - no distinction between residency or citizenship. Unless I've completely lost my command of the English language, I think it's clear that the original statement says something quite different, something quite wrong. Anyhoo....battering ones head off a brick wall is tiring so I'm over and out on this.

Hi just to throw another spanner into the mix, we are due to return with our motorhome and dog from Santander to Portsmouth late March, I have researched how we will get our antigen test, will be completing our locator form and do the quarantine  so all’s well we hope, unless things change...

... in the meantime.

I know the hotel quarantine is for air travel, but what about the travelling public coming in  to the uk via port entry

Also do people know haulage drivers from all over the EU are exempt from having to show a negative COVID test to enter the uk, and some of these will be mixing with me on my ferry !! I assume “ it’s to keep the supply chain moving” is the explanation.

I am hearing that people from banned travel corridors, will try and bypass this by travelling indirect and getting through legitimate travel corridors, for example coming from Portugal and getting a flight out of Spain.

So no change of keeping mutant COVID strains out

Hi.

Before you return to the UK, you have to complete the passenger Locator form. If you have have not completed it truthfully then you will be fined. They are going to check ever single form and they will be following it up.

I have already said that I will be completing my locator form and fully expect my legitimate quarantine will be policed so I am not sure if your post is personal to me or you are just telling us all what we already know ?

Apologies. It was not meant for you. I was trying to say is that the government are going to be very strict with the completion of the form now. I came back to the UK in December, and I never had anyone turn up to check if I was isolating.

Thanks Steve for your explanation, yes it does seem that the government are at last getting tough, and if I was back in the uk I would wellcome these measures, we will be travelling back in a Motorhome so I am going to get well stocked with food and close the door to the world on return, am awaiting to see how they will test us twice during our quarantine and how rigorous the policing will be, I think when you came back in December spot checks were very few according to the various forums I link into.

Got to make sure our antigen tests are negative is our first hurd
