I really feel for you, I’m in a similar position but apparently all down to the town hall and getting a sanction certificate , normally takes a week so far nearly 6 !!! So can’t finalise sale till this is in place , it’s horrible being up in the air like this . I hope for both our sakes we both get sorted sooner rather then later x

Hi Jackie,

Well done you, it does seem it’s the venders as well that are not helping, thought they would want a sale as much as I wanted to buy ? Plus there solicitor and then throw in the town hall for good measure and you have got a waiting game on your hands. And it’s so frustrating not being in the same country, patients has never been one of my virtues at the best of times, .I do wish you well in your new home and hope everything goes to plan for you ( and me :) ) xx

We sold our house end February and through no fault of our own the sale has dragged on - there's only our buyers and theirs in the chain!

But this delay has put doubts in our head - we should be in Spain by now, sorting out our house (which we started renting 2 months ago!).  I know doubts creep in for most things we do in life but when they involve moving 1500 miles away seem worse!...

...

We still need the completion date, hopefully this week and then arrange our cat transport - been changed once, removals, also been changed once and seems like all too much to do it again!

Did anyone else get all this and the doubts and it went ok and weeks later sat on terrace/balcony and think it was worth all the tears and arguments.  This has been the best and worst thing we have ever started.

The alternative is pull out of sale or delay the completion and go elsewhere in the UK - we'd lose the rent we've paid but it's not a huge amount of money.  All we wanted was a new easy life!

Sorry for moans but just though at 3am - it can't go easy for everyone!

We moved to a hotel in torrevjca  on July 2017 after 8 weeks in a hotel with our 4 year old granddaughter we had no car or house we had 4 suitcases and a 4 year old ...basically we sold our house in Scotland and then they pulled out nightmare we sold or gave away everything over 1 year ... our property sold the following week .... we had only been here once before and loved it we chose the 3rd house we saw got through most of the red tape and a school for the wee one ....we were getting divorced on a regular basis it seemed to go on forever ... moved into our house in September Playa  Flamenca and nearly a year on we are settling keep with it guys I promise all will be worth it in the end ...

Get yourself a good hestor ( someone who knows their way around the Spanish system )

Don’t give up Do It 😎

Hi Rosyposy. I have put off posting this message but being a newby to living in Spain I think I can give you a bit food for thought. It is very very different locating here now as compared to 25 or 30 years ago. I am surprised that you are experiencing frustration with the U.K. laws and processes and think it’s only fair to warn you that the Spanish processes, laws and procedures really try your patience and at times astound you. I was told everything was easy, no problem, cheaper than the U.K. , easier than the U.K. etc. Etc. Two years on and things are no easier and I am taken by surprise time and time again. We all have our reasons for wanting a new life in the sun and I truly hope you fulfil your dreams. I can give you the four best pieces of advice I wish I had been given :- 1. do not listen to gossip and those who “know everything” 2. don’t ignore the law here. They tax you on everything you do, big time. 3. SPEAK THE LANGUAGE. Without it you are ignorant and open to fraud and manipulation. 4.  Please look into what changes Brexit will bring about. This could have massive implications on people who are now relocating to Spain (as opposed to those who have been here forever) .

I don’t want to dampen your spirits anymore but what you are feeling at the moment is the tip of the Iceburg. Just remember, what will be will be. If things don’t go according to plan sometimes it’s a godsend. I will no doubt receive lots of critism and abuse for this post but at least I know I have given you my true view. Good luck and have a great experience and adventure. X

Thank you so much for your honesty.

We are still waiting further information on dates..despite week ago Friday being told news today of completion dates!

My husband has learnt Spanish (as best you can here), he is very good at languages, me I know a bit but keep drifting into my French I learnt at school and kept going.  On our trips over there my hubby often says very good but was French!!

We have done an awful lot research on living in Spain and Brexit consequences.  Suppose even if it isn't feasible after 2/3 years then we would return - least we would have done it.

But … I do think the delay is continually making us think everything over and over again, still, despite all of the positive comments here and people we have spoken to.  We should be there now if this sale had gone through when they said.

As they say everyhtihg for a reason … see what happens this week!

I would echo to a great degree what has been said by Lynn above. My family first moved here, for various complex reasons, some 50 odd, yes, 50, years ago, when I was of course still at school. It is completely different now and you must not expect it to be easy. The bureaucratic processes are complex and difficult, and trying to avoid them, as may have been lightly done in the past, is really not advisable. Neither is it noticeably cheaper than UK as far as living costs, apart from wine! I went back to UK, again for complex reasons, when I was 17 and have only recently moved back here, and even I have found the hurdles immense. My mother has been here continuously and is of course now in her 90s, but her experiences are coloured by what life was like when we came. She is totally bi-lingual and has many Spanish friends, but it is different now. Again, for people who came as children and grew up here, they are integrated and accept the way things are, but it can be very much more difficult at middle age and over.

Yes the things you say are understandable but why none of the positives we have been here 8 months and an inch is a sinch a yards to hard so if you get a good hestor that will take you through each step it will be fine .....

We have never regretted coming here the health care is brilliant I have developed an eye problem and the care is second to none ... I haven’t seen any violence and I feel very safe the weather itself brings joy and happiness and I haven’t been depressed since I have gotten here ... The Spanish people are lovely always smiling and have made me very welcome 🙏

Then there are markets on somewhere every day and if you eat the Spanish healthy way it is so very much cheaper 😎 and the fruit and veg is so much tastier as is the chicken ... you can take Spanish lessons once you are here for free in the local town hall I sent my husband lol .. the language barrier I have found is not to difficult.....

Follow your dream and after the first year you will feel amazing and it will be sooooo worth it

But again I say get a good hestor 👍

Great advice Lesleyrose. The food is fantastic !! More seriously though a good Gestor is essential. Maybe someone in Roseyposey’s area could recommend a good one so she can get off on the right footing. I am in Costa Blanca North so I think my recommendation would not be accessible. Good look everyone 😘

We are all different but I can't agree with Stephanie. My family came here over 30 years ago which was before Spain joined the EU.Perhaps it all seemed much easier then because you were a child & your parents worked things out.It was much harder then, I think because there was no challenge to the Spanish system. We had to give first chance to a Spaniard for employment in our business, had to use a Spanish agent when shipping in or out of Spain & although we took over the licence from a Spanish business owner, his annual renewal charge was(say) 30 euros we were charged  300 euros. Under EU law that situation is not allowed today. The red tape can be arduous but so is it often frustrating in the UK where we had a similar business.I do agree that "Multa" (a fine) is one of the 1st.words to learn as it crops up very often!  Swings & Roundabouts though &,like your Mum,I am still here in retirement. My daughter also stayed, married a Spaniard & started her own business. She was a school leaver the year it became compulsory for children to stay at school beyond 14 years old. so many of her schoolfriends, all nationalities, had the incentive to achieve more in life than some from previous years when the boys left & joined the family business & the girls so often married young & worked only in their homes.

Hi, I know exactly how you feel, and yes you do definitely start having doubts. I have been in the middle of a buying process since March. Thought I would have been there now , just had hiccup after hiccup. It’s really wearing, I wish you luck and that you will be sorted soon, as my mum use to ...

...say ‘ if it’s meant to be it will happen ‘ and all things come to those that wait 🙄 let’s hope that’s true 👍

Hi my husband. daughter.  grandson and my self moved here.  We have a 3 bed house very near villa martin.  We decided last year after I retired. Sat in England on a miserable October day I'm 68 my hubby 70 didn't want to spend rest of my life in doors in soggy England. Put our house up for sale 1st Feb sold 2nd feb came out following week and found this. We moved in on the 11th APRIL were very lucky everything went smoothly. But it's the most stressful thing like have ever done. So scary moving to a new country. I keep thinking it can't last and I will have to go back. I love it here so do the rest of the family.my daughter is hoping to find some work and my 3 year old grandson Is starting school in September. Don't give up the dream.
