Thanks for the reply - we are still waiting.  We sold beginning March and have had 3 dates changed due to sheer incompetence on conveyancing (not ours) and our buyers buyers slowness to do anything.

We are now at the stage that this week is our last attempt.  Our cat has to go this week or she cant travel until September due to rules about the heat, we wouldn't go without her, she was a rescue cat and doesn't deserve to be dumped again.  She is booked for Thursday but we are waiting to know if the chain will exchange Wednesday - as we could end up sending her, the chain fails and she's in Spain and we are here :(  We have lost all confidence that it will actually happen!

But as they say tomorrow is another day... oh and on top of that our removal quote has nearly doubled!!

Happy days!!!

If your cat is going with professional transporters, they may have an arrangement with a convenient cattery to which she could be taken to await you. This is what we did with our two, as effectively at our leaving point, we had nowhere to come to officially and stayed with friends until completion of purchase. It was the best thing for the cats as they were safe, looked after and we knew where they were and did not have to worry about them as well. It’s worth a phone call...........?

Pacoboy - yes we could stay here but this has been our plan for nearly 30 years and if we don't give it a try we'll never know whether it was doable and if we'd have like it or not.  At the end of the day we can always come back!  Our daughter lives in Crete so we know how different/hard it can be living abroad, and she did it on a shoestring, we have a bit more than that!  In fact Crete was nearly the choice for relocating but with no trains and virtually closing down from October - April it is too quiet for us, we like cities and hussle and bussle and travelling about.

Lesleyrose - we have managed to find a cheaper removal this morning - we are not bringing a full house with us - no white goods and only 2 beds, no wardrobes - you'd think we were moving Buck Palace!  All give different information on reasons for this and that and rules about how they can drive in France/Spain.  All we wanted was a fair price by trusted movers.  Our preferred choice couldn't do us on our dates.

Stephanie86 - yes Rosy is going to a cattery with the transporters when she arrives until we get our furniture over, though she has never been in one before so my heart strings are being pulled for that!

Honestly if/when I get there I will drink my body weight in Cava to celebrate, well maybe not!!

If it’s any comfort to you re catteries, our uk vet said to me once that provided the cat has a small dark place to hide in, when they are away from familiar surroundings, they will be fine. And they have no concept of the passage of time as we understand it, so two days or two weeks makes no difference. Harsh but true - and I also thin k it’s better if one doesn’t ‘visit’ them as that only stresses them. Good Luck and enjoy the Cava!!!

We went with Pickfords who split the cost with different people we had 6 boxes and when we were settled the boxes followed quite a good way of doing the removal as you just let them know when your settled and of course you split the bill with other 😊

We DID nd up sleeping on the floor- we are far too old to re-live our student days!

This was because I decided not to choose the large expensive removers (bishops Move) but instead, foolishly, chose a small, local firm who claimed to be international removers, although they were very well known in the area as reputable. They were roughly half the price of BM. BiG mistake!!!!! As soon as they had packed and removed I received a bill for 30% over and above estimate - husband had by this time left UK and i was in Band B sorting out final things - and seeing friends!!! So had to pay. Had to wait 5 x weeks (they subcontracted international I discovered!) for goods to arrive. Most of it ok and the men worked really hard, except 18th century clock dismantled and thrown in boxes with no protective packing to mechanism. I had specifically asked if they understood how to deal with it. It cost quite a lot to get repaired, new parts had to be made etc etc - we were lucky to find and English clockmaker!!! To say nothing of other items. So, you gets what you pays for!!! Lesson learnt AGAIN!!!
