I've just registered Kimmy. They didn't ask anything except did I want to register and what was my phone number. I am resident here permanently, but I haven't started the residency process yet. Yet I have the certificate.

Hi Yvonne,

So you need to remember that when you do apply for residency, the certificate cannot be dated more than 90 days before your application appointment.  If it is, you'll need to get an updated certificate from your Town Hall.

Kind regards,

Kim

A Gestor should not be that expensive just to arrange an appointment and do the basic paperwork  We changed our old bits of tatty green paper earlier this year at the local Gestoria in Jalon. She got appointments within five days and only charged us 20 Eu each. That seems worth it to me. I t...

FYI we used Mavi at MA asesores in Jalon, sorry, lost phone number but all info online.

I totally agree Stephanie. Our lawyers fee was worth every cent to get all our legal stuff sorted during the first lockdown for covid. We met a few couples who decided to do a D.I.Y. job to save money and made mistakes in not knowing which bits of paperwork was needed at the meetings they had arranged. Our passageway to getting everything done quickly and properly was easy. The Spanish, just like the French, just love their paperwork....

In order to obtain Spanish citizenship, you must reside in Spain for at least 183 days per year and cannot be absent for 6 consecutive months. You will also have to pass a Spanish language test. Spain does not recognise second citizenship, the investor and his family members will have to renounce their first citizenship, e.g. Kazakh citizenship.

Hi Anna and welcome to the forum,

This thread is about residency in Spain for an EU citizen, not Spanish citizenship.  There is no requirement to take a Spanish language test to gain residency here.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi Yvonne,

Then I don't think you've read any of my numerous posts on this subject.  It is illegal for non-residents to register on the Padrón, unless they require it for their Residency application.  In that case, they simply ask their Town Hall for a temporary Padrón, which usually lasts ...

...3 months, and when they've received their residency, they go back to the Town Hall to update their records with the residency number.  Once that's done, as you say, it doesn't need to be updated for 2 years.  However, there are other formal procedures for which they may need a Padrón certificate no more than 3 months old, in which case they would need to go to their Town Hall to obtain an updated certificate.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hello Kim,

Thank you for your extremely helpful input here. For the temporary padrón of 3 months, do we still need to present a long term rental contract of more than 6 months or the authorisation for empadronamiento by the landlord (which ours does not want to give us) alongside with NIE number and Passport plus copies? Or is a short term rental contract (5 months in our case) sufficient in this case?
