This is from a woman called Jennie Spence who flew back into uk

I am so angry and pained this morning... arrived into Heathrow yesterday and heartbroken to see absolutely ZERO checks being done to arriving passengers who have travelled right around the globe.  No masks or Protection on airport workers/emigration, no questions asked on health, no informat...

...ion given on Covid-19, no temperatures taken and absolutely no social distancing measurements enforced. Not even a presence of virus protection anywhere - you would think nothing was happening. People everywhere. No self quarantine advised or enforced quarantine to non uk citizens, no matter what nationality and where they have been travelling.

We had flown into Melbourne from probably one of the safest islands to be right now, kept on the aircraft and given a 20 minute brief on covid by the Australian health authority. All passengers who were not onward travelling out of Oz would be escorted to a government facility and quarantined for 14 days. We were then escorted off the plane family by family, one by one taken away, temperatures taken and questioned about our health, given masks, hand sanitised, explanation of the virus again, signed a health declaration then escorted into a quarantined departure area, told to social distance from every other family and to sit for 8 hours to wait for our connecting flight with only a vending machine.

Driving home from Heathrow to Manchester, not one police stop to check what we were doing out and traffic everywhere with numerous people sharing vehicles. People out walking in groups, children playing outside with no supervision... the list continues.

I’ve turned on the TV this morning and yet again there is so much news on key workers, nhs, nurses, doctors, carers working their butts off and risking their own health - I am so saddened and angry and feel that the UK government is massively failing in protecting the Uk people. Our fellow Europeans have been locked in their homes, living solitary for weeks on end and airport boarders around the world are closed and we are here “welcoming” everyone in with absolutely no checks and no questions asked. So sad. So sorry. Heart broken.

Any negative comments welcome as no words can change how disgusted I am with the care of this country and it’s people.

Hi Jennie , just back from NZ and couldn’t agree more.Travel is a great eye opener and gives a very different perspective than just being in Europe. One can become very dogmatic and have very narrow views without travel

Flossie88 Can see your argument love them and the Aussies but you cannot compare New Zealand to the U.K. North London has the same size population and a totally different culture to NZ in fact if NZ hadn’t achieved what they have a lot of questions would have been asked.well done to NZ though.

Totally agree Ray. I’m fed up of people bashing UK. Funny how they need the UK after 9-11 when we went into Afghanistan. What did Germany supply - a few non frontline staff. The Spanish immediately surrendered following the Madrid bombings and withdrew the few troops they had in theatre. As for...

... the rest of the EU countries enough said! I think people will be eating their own words in a few years after we leave the EU

Complete and utter BULLOCKS.

As someone from Continental Europe who has frontline experience in Afghanistan, I resent your claim that only the UK went into the heat.

Enjoy your Brexit, don’t come back please.

Belgian Air Component under ISAF ( NATO).

Been in Kandahar again recently. Still looks the same...

By the way, for the record, 102 Spanish soldiers were killed under ISAF in Afghanistan. This “ Sarge” poster is talking from his behind.

I've been having a read of some the supposedly "British" / "anti-British" comments so I thought I'd post this link to the official UK Government web site from which the daily testing figures are taken.

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-information-for-the-public

Couple of interesting points to note:

1. No of tests carried out includes people tested twice and postal tests issued but not returned

2. The number of deaths only included those that have tested positive in an NHS or PHE lab. Anyone displaying symptoms but untested and anyone tested positive in a 3rd party lab is excluded

3. A better indication of the impact of Covid-19 is the ONS data on ALL deaths (link below). There is a lag in dates, but this data shows the total number of deaths per week compared to a rolling 5yr average. This data shows the overall increase is significantly higher than that published by DHSC

https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/deaths

I leave you to draw your own conclusions, but as I say these are the Governments own web sites

Thank you for posting this,  it is evidence based and confirms what I have been saying privately for some time.

It's sad that telling the truth based on factual information is now considered anti British.

Take care and keep safe

Hi ray,

I didn’t take any offence, I just wanted people to understand what’s really going on here.

The uk govt have done some fantastic work, paying people’s wages up 80% offering loans to companies , suspended all sorts of  taxes etc, mortgage payments suspended and now I believe loans suspended.

They built that hospital in 9 days, building more as we speak and investing heavily in

Tests for COVID -19, these are unprecedented times and I think the good news should be spread..

Regards

Terry

The UK governemnt have known for more than a decade that a pandemic was coming - No1 on the National Risk Register for the last decade and a half. Still they did not invest in the NHS, equipment needed, PPE or capacity to make tests/ drugs.

We failed because we did not have the testing capacity of Germany or the willingness to invest in something the government hoped would never happen. We gambled and we lost big time because we were more concerned about banks than health.
