If avoidable, don’t bother! There is an es. Marks and Spencer website and most items are available on Amazon.es.

We even got charged €5 for a wedding invitation because it was in a small box to stop it getting damaged, ludicrous.

I can see the dilemma you are in.  I have been through this many times and there is no consistency at all.  There are no tables giving charges vs weight. On several occasions I have had to pay more than the contents are worth.

I recently saw a presentation on a webinar that had a customs agent doing a bit. He said that all the agencies are totally unprepared, understaffed and overwhelmed.  Rejected parcels are piling up in warehouses and there is no one to send them back within the allotted time.

At this very moment I need a new battery for the car which is a bit of an oddball.  It's the same size as a normal one except the terminals are on the side as opposed to the top.  I have priced one here in Spain and am getting quotes of nearly €300.  I can get one on Ebay UK for about £80

Somehow I need to get one brought over and avoid the import duty chaos .  Does anyone know someone coming over soon by road who could bring one over for me? The car is off the road.

All suggestions welcome.

If not amazon.es try amazon.de. In both cases a lot of the text can be put into english.

Hi, I am thinking of ordering an item of clothing from the UK for delivery in Spain.  I normally buy everything here in Spain but the item I want to purchase is not available here unfortunately.  The purchase price of the item is £35 and postage is £10.  Can anyone explain to me ...

...(in simple terms please!) what import duty / tax I would be required to pay here in Spain.  Would I have to pay the delivery driver or would the item be held at Correos until I go and pay?  Thanks in advance!

Having had experience of this my simple advise is DON'T DO IT!!! DO NOT NOT PUT YOURSELF THROUGH HE'LL.  DO WITHOUT UNTIL YOU FIND SOME ONE TO BRING IT OUT FOR YOU.   It's a total minefield,  plus you have even odds you will never see the item anyhow.

Durango.   That is the best advice anyone can give.  It really is just not worth the hassle.  The Spanish don't have a clue what they are doing.  There is NO common system.

Sadly I will still have to suffer it as I often have to get car parts that are unavailable in Spain.   I am tending to use American or German supplies.  There is still duty on the US parts though although funnily enough my order last week did not incur any duty, but I'm not complaining.

Thank you so much for the offer.  I have managed to find a similar item (not quite what I want, but it will do!) on the Amazon.de website, so I’ve ordered it from there now.

That's good I'm  glad you got something . It would have been no problem to bring it over
