Under the rules of the deal, U.K. citizens will only be able to holiday in Spain and most EU countries for a maximum of 90 days in any 180-day period.

With the exception of Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus and Romania, which will not limit visits in this way.

Methinks Spain will enter into negotiations with the U.K. for similar arrangements made with the aforementioned countries.

Croatia and Cyprus look appealing for second home owners.

Good luck with Cyprus, I am currently helping out someone living through a nightmare because of a property bought there years ago!

Similar experiences to some folks who bought properties in Spain. Unfortunately the luck of the draw.

Seems to confirm 26k Eu per person/32k Euro per couple annual income requirement. Also 516 Eu per person application fee. Re income ... there seems to be an option to demonstrate investment assets yielding the equivalent value.

Qualifying healthcare requirement. Also a medical certificate to show that applicants have no "public concern" illnesses.

Criminal Record certificate required.

Hi guys

We were looking at retiring to Spain in next two years my wife will b 60 and i 55

Can any one give more details regarding the requirements

We were looking at buying this April but C19 seams to have put a hold on things

I cant imagine Spain enforcing strong measures as that will be financial suicide as they need the income generated by Brits

My dilema is do i contunue  with Spain or do i go To Northern Cyprus

Are the islands like teneriffe fall under  the same rules

Its very confusing all i know is i do not want to stay in the UK

Any help will be appreciated

Lots for all of us to take in ...

The first link includes the following statement ... "British citizens and their family member need visa for journey undertaken after 31st December 2020 for the purposes of residence, studies for period larger than 90 days, work, professional, artistic or religious activities" ...

....

The second link is the application for the "Non-Lucrative Residence Visa".

It sounds like "Residency" (for retired Brits) is the "Non-Lucrative Residence Visa" in future.

That is how I am reading it. Alternative interpretations welcomed.

So the new process might be ... (1) come here for up to 90 days, agree to buy/lease a home, set up a Spanish Solicitor (to sort NIE, bank, house, Visa etc.), go back to the UK, (2) return to Spain on the earlier of the dates of grant of Non-Lucrative Residence Visa or the next 90 days.

This does seem to make the process of selling up in the UK/buying in Spain a bit more complex.

Sounds like you can apply by emailing the consulate in London . Then go to the appointment in London. Once all this is done you have one month to go to spain and go to the police station to finish off the process. This can only be done within 90 days of travelling  to spain. Or am I missing something ?

Problem is tier system across the UK make travel to London difficult.

Also could a solicitor with POA attend the last appointment at the Spanish police station.

Yes . I can’t travel there at the moment and also they only do appointments on a Tuesday and Thursday  from 9.30 to 12.30. Not going to get a lot done there are they. I suppose they need a long lunch break😄

We are in similar positions my wife is retired and my intention is to retire in 4 yrs time, however, due to the nature of my job I can work from anywhere in Europe. Our intention was to move to Spain in 2023 permanently working from there with intention of finishing work in 2025.

Currently we have a couple of investment properties in Spain, however, due to the current situation unless the present circumstances change we’ll probably dispose of a property in Spain and buy something in Cyprus were there are no restrictions on non EU citizens.
We’ll have to give it a lot of consideration as really do not need all this hassle during our retirement years. Here lies our dilemma.
