I have mixed feelings about this, on one hand I look forward to seeing people being able to return to their holiday homes in Spain and on the other I want to see a big drop in infections and deaths in both the UK and in Spain before the borders are open, keeping my fingers crossed.

From the uk here and own a home in Spain, I would like to reassure people I would not put anyone at risk think to much of our lovely Spanish neighbours will more then likely not be returning this year. Our july flights have been cancelled with Ryanair, one of many as we normally visit once a month, take care everybody

I am hoping to travel via Ferry (Plymouth to Santander) on 5th July, to our holiday home in Villamartin. But as a precaution, as I want both my family to be healthy for travelling but also don't want to transmit / bring in anything if we are not. We felt that the safest option, was to travel by c...

Our plan is to self-isolate the 2 weeks prior to travel, then get a COVID test 2 or 3 days before our planned travel date. Not sure if it's the same throughout the UK, but here in Scotland, anyone can book in for a test or to self-test. As long as we feel healthy and our test is good, we will travel (if UK/Spain let us that is).

Just thought I'd share in case anyone thinking along the same lines (and hope we all get to travel if safe to do so).

Hi,

Sounds like a good plan, especially the test to give yourself peace of mind. I didn't know they were readily available in Scotland but I must admit they seem to be managing the whole situation and appear to have it under control there.

In the IMED clinic in torrevieja private covid-19 including antibody tests are available for 50 Euros which I think is a good price the same test in London is £250.

Have a safe journey and enjoy your stay.

Best Wishes

Vivienne

A lot of us live in areas that have a lot of tourists, especially in the summer months. The past few weeks have been very calm and quiet personally I have enjoyed the time but without tourists the businesses suffer and without the businesses we in the long term suffer.

As soon as it’s safe to do so I believe people should be allowed to travel, maybe a fit to travel scheme could be implemented where everyone who wants to travel takes a cv19 test to show that they are healthy.

@Duster - fair point. Would the residents of these areas also be requested to take a test to show they are CV negative as they could also transmit of course?

I have just read this.. Spain’s Tourism Minister has left the hopes of thousands of Britons yearning to return to the Costas in tatters today when she said the UK’s coronavirus infection rate “still had to improve” before they’d be allowed to visit. Fingers crossed

Don't worry all these statements by so called leading politicians won't mean a thing come 1st July 2020, there will be "convenient" air bridges in place for the majority of European countries to take advantage of the weather and other excesses. At the end of the day money talks and Spain won't go another month without having the Brits there whether you like it or not.

Good point.

The way I see it we have three options.

1 The virus disappears altogether.

2 A antidote is found.

3 A testing and regular screening system is put in place

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

True but it would greatly reduce the risks.

I very much doubt an antidote will ever be found. Just due to the way Coronavirus works in masking it's binders and mutates them - the very reason the common cold coronavirus cannot be immunised against will be the reason for Sars-2. Not all in the scientific community believe this but as it's a new virus there is no way of telling at this time yet if this is a fact and if we are to believe the mortality rates I think it's safe to say nothing will ever quite be the same again. This nasty little CV will thin out the herd - it's probably why the ex-head of Mi6 is sure it was man-made and perhaps for this very reason created. It has been widely reported it also damages your body for life in some case. This time next year we'll know for sure if it's an annual recurring but but I think holidays in the sun should be wishful thinking for a while until we really know the score.  The uptick will first be in the UK as it's really obvious the Spanish overall still mask/glove/isolate but have you seen the British behaviour? I get the stiff upper lip and carry on regardless thing with it's not bombs and bullets, it's some odd RNA that wants your cells as a host.
