We had a log burner, but wasn’t man enough for the job. Plus very dirty and a pain to keep chucking logs on. Took it out and got a pellet burner. Far, far better!

Thank you so much for your advice , it is much appreciated .

We have new A/C  units in the bedrooms so we shall try it all out and purchase a wood burner , any recommendations on firms to use for this ?.

Hope to be coming over before xmas , and the weather cannot be any colder than here in whitldy bay snow and ice.

Thanksx

If there’s a fire place you might consider an enclosed gas fire which would be less work all around!  No need for storage for all the wood you’ll need. Instant heat and extremely efficient. You would be well advised to install some electric heaters on the stair well as this will take the ghastly chill away.

Los Montesinos have a showroom full of beautiful gas fires. Ours is set into the fireplace but you can now get stunning looking big show stopper fires which will require a fake wall or you may be able to cut a hole into a wall. Ambifuego is the name of the suppliers.

You are very wise indeed to plan heating as people find it impossible to believe how you could possibly need heating in Spain. The aircon is ideal on a mild evening but you’ll definitely require another form to provide real heat.  This may be the time to consider central heating instead of spending a lot of money on wood burners or gas fire. I don’t have central heating in our Spanish house as we don’t live there. If I did live permanently, I’d definitely have central heating.
if you’re thinking about retiring your floors, maybe look into underfloor heating!  Wouldn’t that be the job!!!

Enjoy your new life and best wishes for a very Happy Christmas and a wonderful New Year.

Great advice , im loving the way so many people have been so helpful towards us .

Thank you all so much.

Yes we are going to consider all options as i dont do cold very well.

Coming from the North East youd think we would be used to it .

If we dont get sorted we will have to snuggle together for pug hugs !!

Thats always a bonus .

I have a log burner and hot/ cold air on in every room ( controlled with Wi-Fi.) very clever👌 make sure your electricity supply is up to the demand ,we have just over 9kw capability but we have never gone over 6.5kw. My friends are quite elderly now and had their log burner replaced with a pellet burner and have never been warm enough since doing so. But it is far easier on the joints and ash debris.

From what.we understood from the Austrian manufacturer of our pellet burner is that the Kw output has to be sufficient for the volume of space to be heated. Our house is,  somewhat unfortunately, completely open plan, but the heat output of our pellet stove is very good, and also, of course, the required temperature can be controlled. From reading comments about these appliances, I think it’s possibly a problem that some users may have under powered machines.
