When I registered my S1 online I received a phone call from the INSS office within 1 week and a text message followed, which I took along to my allocated health centre who issued the SIP card there and then.

Thank you sounds complicated lol
To be honest it's not really that complicated. Just read the instructions carefully and take one step at a time. Good luck!

Did it at online the back end of last year, albeit via a gestor. After the S1 , padron and TIE had been scanned onto the application, it took approx 8 weeks. (early October to mid December). Confirmation came through by email and along with my SIP, TIE ( no other documentation required) I took these to my salud so they could update their records. In my salud only one member of staff was aufait with the system OF updating an already issued SIP, so I had to wait an hour for her to become available, but in reality it’s only a few clicks on the computer.

This is copied from a UK government website. They don't mention the need to have an electronic certificate on your computer and apparently you can do it without, but it's a lot easier with one (also, where it says digital copies, it means scanned copies):
If you cannot visit an INSS office in person, you can register your S1 form online instead....

Some parts of the process are either in Spanish or need to be completed in Spanish.
Before you startYou’ll need digital copies of the following documents:
your S1 form a completed healthcare application form – available to download on the INSS S1 registration webpage (in Spanish)your passport your green A4 or credit-card-sized residency certificate (‘residencia’) or new TIE card (Tarjeta de Identidad Extranjera)proof of how dependants are related to the S1 holderIf you’ve applied for your TIE card but not yet received it, you can include a copy of the confirmation that your application has been approved (resolución favorable) by the Spanish authorities.
You’ll also need:
an email addressa Spanish telephone numberyour NIE (número de identidad de extranjero)Register your detailsThe INSS website has an online registration form.
The form is in Spanish.
Once you have completed and saved the healthcare application form, you will need to send this with the rest of the necessary documentation:
click on ‘enviar solicitud’follow the instructions on your screen to confirm your identity (the process is in Spanish)provide any additional information that may be relevant to your application using the text box under ‘Datos de la solicitud’Upload your filesAttach all the documents listed at the start of this guide.
Submit your formTo complete the process, you’ll need to verify your e-mail address again and submit your application.
Get an update on your application then select ‘Ya he presentado una solicitud y quiero conocer su estado y/o aportar mas documentacion’.
The INSS will contact you if they need further information or if you need to book an appointment to visit an INSS office.
This is me again, Herefordjack! If you do this application correctly, they will email you a one page authorisation document which you print off and take to your local health centre with passport, TIE and padron and ask them to supply your SIP card. Take every other document you can think of just in case. This is Spain, after all!
That's the method I used. I already have a sip card as my husband was a pensioner when we moved here 7 years ago. As I'm now registered as a pensioner, I've registered independently from him . I presume I'll be keeping my own sip number as my medical records will all be in that number. Perhaps they'll say I just continue using the card I already have

Thank you. It's only been a couple of weeks so I'll wait a bit longer and hopefully confirmation will be emailed to me

The UK have been tidying up their files and have been issuing reminders for people over the years have asked for an S1 and either not registered it or as in a lot of cases it’s not been correctly registered. That has prompted an influx of people registering or re registering their S1, hence what is normally a 2 week turnaround has resulted in an 8 - 10 week process.
Yes, you keep the same SIP number and once the salud have pressed quite a few keys on their computer, they give you the same card back. My GP had changed since my original card was issued , so they just put a sticker on the back on mine with the new GP’s details.

Hi. I was in the same situation as you, but I got my solicitor to do it for me because I’m hopeless with online applications. He submitted it last Monday, and I had a missed call from him today, which I’m assuming was to tell me that the document I need for sip card has come through. He was advised approx week/ two weeks but that depends on the volume of applications. I will phone my solicitor in the morning and if this is the case, I will post again to let you kno
